Hi guys. Just starting to look into options regarding a media servers following the use of direct connected HDD to my TV for the past few years getting increasingly frustrating as my library has grown.
I've been thinking of building a mini PC to act as a server and maybe do a bit of low spec requirement gaming on it in future. I've been a long time away from PC building and my god options have exploded compared to 10 years ago so I've got a bit of relearning to do.
OS would be Ubuntu initially but eventually upgrade to Windows 10 but hardware I'm looking at for base system is as follows.
Case is an ANTEC ISK 600 mini ITX.
Motherboard - MSI HD1I and use onboard GFX initially.
Processor Intel i5 4460 3.2ghz.
8Gb Hyperflex DDR3 Ram.
Think the case can take 2x 3.5" and 2x 2.5"so plan to populate this over time to multiple 2-3 TB drives but likely I'll start with 2 x 1TB 2.5"
I was thinking of maybe going with an i3 to lower costs but would only be saving about £50-£60 so figured the i5 would make more sense longer term.
Not likely to have more than one stream running at a time so maybe some of the more experienced could let me know if I'm heading in the right direction or even a cheaper set-up for my requirements.
Thanks guys,
