Hey fellow plexers! I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but I have been trying literally over a year as a side project to set this little Acer Aspire One netbook with Media Server and use it as a server. I originally tried with the pre-loaded Window Starter (as if!) and then tried a couple of different distros of Linux (like Mint) since then, but it never works out (usually because I get tripped up with the Linux install, or it doesn't work once the OS is in place).
My latest fiasco was downloading Ubuntu Server 16.04 not realizing that it doesn't come with a GUI and for some reason, my internet connection doesn't work and I can't download any updates AT ALL to even get the basic necessities for running command line sudo operations or troubleshoot the hardware.
Admittedly I'm a newb when it comes to Linux, but I want to use it for this project because it will be faster than Winblows on this slow machine (only 1GB memory). So my question to you all is this: What is the quickest and easiest way to get a Linux operating system on this damn thing so I can start running PMS? Any helpful instructibles would be greatly appreciated. Because this is frustrating and no longer a fun interesting project. :)
