I've got an LG 65UF8500 4k TV that runs the Plex client well. Or at least I thought so until I tried playing a 4k media file.
I got a lot of transcoding, which my Plex server can't quite keep up with. That is expected as my server is a little slow, but that isn't the cause of the problem.
Here is my setup:
- client: LG (webOS 3.10.23-p.21.biscayne.lm15u.10)
- server: 1.3.0.3059-6277334 running on Fedora Linux server
- network: 1 Gig ethernet network, both TV and server connected at 1 gig
- media file: 4k media file with hevc (Main 10), yuv420p10le(tv), 3840x2160, see attachment for more info
Problem: Client requests a 4k stream that the server feels needs to be transcoded. There are no subtitles whatsoever.
Work Around Solution: Copy the same media file to a USB thumb drive and insert into the TV. It plays perfectly without any pauses or lag
Proposed Better Solution: Enable the Plex client running on the LG TV to better identify the types of media that can be DirectPlay'ed
