Slow connection - "Indirect connection" outside of network!

Hi!

I have looked all over the internet for several days, and none of them seems to fix my problem.

I have a synology NAS, that I'm running my PMS from, and under "Remote Access", it's green and says "Full connection, from outside network" (Or something like that, my UI is on danish).

I have portforwarded my Nas ip and used the port 32400, as I've been told.
I have also tried disable firewall - both on router and NAS.

But the connection is still "Indirect" and my content keep buffering and downgrade to 320p.
My internet connection is 300/300 and the NAS is connected by cable.

I'm so frustrated by this, hopefully you guys can help me!

Plex Doesn't work on my Local Area Network without Internet Access

I've Paid for a Plex Pass and when ever i didn't have internet access it worked great over my Local Area Network. it worked so well that i made a mobile server for my motor home. HOWEVER, i updated my media server and now Plex doesn't work unless it's connected to the internet upon boot up of the system.

Does anyone know a work around for this? Plex, can you disable the Internet authentication?

what's the point of paying for a full use membership if you can use it?

Linux Mint + Plex + PIA = Indirect Relay, help?

I am beyond ready to just forget everything because it's been driving me nuts for days.

So I have PMS installed on my Linux Mint Laptop, media is on an external drive. Its all setup, seems to have found all the items when searching and no issues with that.

I also have PIA set up on my laptop, set the port forwarding, set up the local correctly. I followed the various directions and read the thousands upon thousands of posts, from here, reddit and even blogs about setting up port forwarding on my router, and assigning it its own iP Address and the port. I've done it all.

When I connect with my Roku devices I am able to only get Relay, but the playback quality under the settings allows me to have a pretty decent viewing experience over wifi.

BUT my apple tv, which is hardwired to the network, the same network that my PMS server laptop is connected to, works slow, gets a relay, but only allows me to stream at .7mbps, 320p for home streaming and internet streaming. IF I attempt to change these things, it just reverts back to this, which leads to a choppy horrible blurry experience for something that's directly connected. I've tried everything.

I did notice under the settings while looking at the AppleTv Plex, that under debugging > Enable Log Download it showed the local IP address but a port of 32500/logging NOT the 32400 in which my PIA and Laptop are set for.

Is this the issue???

View Playlist like library

Hi. I have a tonne of music and a lot of it is crap - but I don't want to delete it. So I would ideally like to create a sub library called 'crap music'... but it seems this isn't that easy. So... could I create two playlists - good music and bad music - then get the same screen view as you do on the root music library? Or does anyone have any alternative ideas that doesn't involve deleting the actual crap music files? Ta very much.

Plex Server unable to communicate with internet - Can't find Server

I in stalled the latest version(1.13.0.5023-31d3c0c65) of Plex Media Server on to a Thecus 12910 NAS connected to a Watchguard T30-W router(Business router)
When I run the server software it just sits there looking for servers.

Using supports trouble shooting guide:

Ensure you have the current version of Plex Media Server installed
Ensure that Plex Media Server is actually actively running
Verify that your Server is listed on your Devices page
Disable any VPN on your computer or router
Disable any proxies being used on your computer or router
Make sure you aren’t requiring secure connections on the server while using an app that doesn’t support them (see below)

Current version: Yes
Actively running: Yes
Device page: Not listed. Don't see it running.
Disable VPN: Yes
Disable Proxies: 30 Proxies are on there by default, unable to delete, software won't let me. Not even sure they are active. Currently in contact with manufacture of router to see if they are active or ways to deactivate and delete(waiting for a response from them).
Not requiring secure connections: No, not requiring secure connections as far as I know

Please advise on how to get the server software to communicate with the internet.

HW Transcoding Performance Comparisons

Curious about HW Transcoding Performance of different video cards. Figured this might be a good place to start.

For comparison sake, we would need to specify:
CPU or GPU used: (cuvid for nvidia cards, qsv for intel hd integrated gpu on cpu, etc)
FFMPEG command line used.
Probably good to expose some random test video everyone can get access to to benchmark against? But then we'd need multiple video files if we wanted to test different scenarios, ie h264, h265 encodings, etc.

And what exactly do we use for the benchmark comparison numbers. What I've found as the easiest way to compare personally and maybe I'm completely misreading this, is the multiple it transcodes at. Ie, when I transcode using "ffmpeg -hwaccel cuvid -i test.mkv -c:v h264_nvenc -c:a copy -preset slow out.mkv" I end up with speed=8.57x on my quadro k2200, and speed=2.22x on my gtx 660 ti.

I also know by doing multiple transcodes a the same time, the speed generally halves. So only real point in doing multiple transcodes is doing 3 to test if your video card is limited to 2 transcodes as most gtx and quadro < k2000 are. Ie, my k2200 can transcode 8 streams at around x1, my gtx 660 ti is limited to 2 streams at 1x, 3rd stream throws an error because its limited to 2.

So in the interest of helping others with creating hw transcode threads, would it be beneficial to setup some standard benchmark and result thread here to get results from different video cards or does this already exist perhaps else where (even better!)?

Optimize Permissions

Hi guys, when i try to optimize any video (save to) any directory outside of "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Plex Versions" it gives me an error saying "Converted files cannot be written to the server's disk" for the record the permissions for the folder i am trying to write to is "drwxr-xr-x 7 nobody nogroup 4096 Mar 22 21:15 PLEX" thanks in advance Image may be NSFW.

Trouble with Hades Canyon NUC and Hardware Decoding

I recently received one of the new Hades Canyon NUCs (NUC8i7HVK) with hopes of it becoming my next powerhouse Plex server.

My hope was to use linux, and take advantage of hardware transcoding, but unfortunately I have run into some trouble. I installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server and plex,, but the plex server setup UI does not show the Hardware Transcode option, and transcoding is happening on the CPU. Looking in the logs I see:

TPU: hardware transcoding: zero-copy support not present

however, if I run vainfo on the nuc, this is what I get:

Unable to add localhost to allowedNetwork

I am running plex in a Docker environnement, and I have a few other container that shall be able to communicate with the API.

In order to enable this access, I did add 127.0.0.1 to the "List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" but it is not working.

Random stream dead

Hi,

I am expericneing a strange issue from here to then related to my PMS. Sometimes videos simply stop to transcode while streaming. It could happen at the end of a video, at the beginning or in the middle.
Since last week I used a ramdisk for the plex temp folder. Because I had some problems with RAM earlier. Thats why I moved the temp folder to a nfs mount. Unfortunatly this didn't solve the problem.

This are the log messages:

Updated to plexmediaserver-1.13.0.5023-31d3c0c65.x86_64, the Android app canot see the server

Hello,

I just updated to the latest version as of 13 May, and no more connection from my Android phone. I was using it yesterday to stream to my Chromecast device without issues...

I have restarted both server (several times via "systemctl restart plexmediaserver.service") & phone, removed server's cache, logged out of both server & phone then logged in first on server, then on the phone. Server still shows as Offline in the app. Both devices are on the same local network (Linux PC is wired - 192.168.1.35, phone on WiFi - 192.168.1.102). I have disabled Secure connections and put 192.168.1.0/24 into List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

Plex won't match any movie or TV show

I am running Plex Version 1.12.2.4929 on FreeNas 9.3 and I cannot get any of the plex agents to match to any movie or tv and when I try to manually match I get this:

Any Help would be appreciated. I have attached log files Image may be NSFW.

Indirect connection

Hi,

I'm having a indirect connection from outside of my network. I have forwarded port TCP/32400 in my router to the IP address of my Plex Server.

I'm using plex version: 1.13.0.5023

Okay, I'm writing this post and all I was copying the plex version and I see that the Remote Access is open now! And from outside my network it says "Remote" now instead of "indirect". If it stays this way you can discard my post, if it changes again to "indirect", I will post back!

After upgrading my server to Artful, the repo stopped working. I guess I should have waited a bit more and someone is already working on it, but just in case:

Continually Scanning Music Library

Version 1.12.1.4885 / Linux Ubuntu

I have been a long term PMS user for many a year with no complaints - until now. I have a lot of content, including a large collection of MP3's. This music library rarely changes. Yet, PMS since the last update, is continually scanning my music library.

I have disabled the Library > "[ ] Include music libraries in automatic updates" and also put it down to "daily" ... yet this is not stopping the scanning from continuing. I have rebooted the server many times (something I have rarely had to do) and still it continues to fill up log files.

There is nothing sinister in the log files, no slow-log performance issues, nothing that would suggest something is wrong.

thoughts?

External HDD on Ubuntu

Plex isn't detecting my external HDD on Ubuntu, and I'm paying for a Plex pass. Sucks. What do I do?

Ubuntu 16.04 - Playback stops, PMS becomes unreachable, but service is still "active and running"

  • PMS 1.11.3.4803 on Ubuntu 16.04
  • 8 cores of a 24 Core Xeon E5 @ 1.8Ghz
  • Media stored on G-Drive via plexdrive v5.0
  • Home ISP is symmetrical gigabit speed over fiber (Comcast Gigabit Pro)
  • Player is a local client: RasPlex on RPi2 (Direct Play)

Every time I use plex for long durations of time (over 2 consecutive hours), playback drops, and PMS becomes unreachable. In this linked Plex Media Server.log file, the crash happened at 10:17pm or 10:18pm. Host server logs show less than 10% resource utilization for RAM and CPU consumption. My home internet connection is rock solid, fiber backbone with ubiquti gear, and no drops or network problems in logs. systemctl status plexmediaserver shows PMS as "active(running)" even when it's unreachable.

With next to zero information to go on, I'm not even sure where to start. The only way I've found to get it working again is just to restart PMS and plexdrive in tandem, any time it happens (which is every day).

My knee jerk reaction was to blame plexdrive, but that wouldn't make the entire plex server unreachable, it would just make the media inaccessible.

Playback Error Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.

I've been receiving this error consistently starting today. Any time I try to play a piece of media, it starts to play but then stops with the error message "Playback Error Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error."

The only weird thing I can see in the logs is a repeating debug message about selecting subtitles.

Any ideas?

Plex listening on 54749

I'm running Plex Media Server on Ubuntu 18.04. Plex listens on the port 54749, but I cannot find any information about what purpose this port has. The service is functioning fine, and I'm currently blocking the port with iptables.

What does plex use port 54749 for, and is there any place I can find information regarding ports for plex?
