Server not starting?

Hi, I've used Plex for a couple of weeks. It is setup to run when the computer boots. Today it can't connect to local host, and when I "launch" from plex.tv it isn't launching as the server. Error message is that "the server XXX is unavailable. Plex will automatically try to reconnect to this server" and "the selected server is unavailable. Make sure it is running etc". I've tried launching via the desktop also, but same results.

Plex Media Server - Streaming crashes randomly after Update

Recently updated my Debian Plex Server to Version 0.9.16.4. I've since had constant problems with videos being watched stopping with "unable to connect to server", but if you hit RETRY it connects and continues immediately.

Plex certificate and address bind issue

I recently moved and reconfigured my new network to work with Plex, as well as had to re-sync some HDDs back into a RAID I'm running (though the RAID is only tied to the home directory). Neither should have affected Plex, so I'm not sure exactly what caused the problem.

From what the logs say, it looks like Plex has some certificate issue as well as an issue with binding to the correct address:

Jun 05, 2016 10:00:46 [0x7f48bc96f840] DEBUG - BPQ: [Idle] -> [Starting]

Jun 05, 2016 10:00:46 [0x7f48bc96f840] ERROR - Error: Unable to set up server: bind: Cannot assign requested address

I'm running a headless Ubuntu 14.04.

Nothing is running on port 32400, so I don't know why it can't bind. I've tried both the latest 32-bit and 64-bit servers, reinstalling, etc. Not sure what I can do about the certificate problem either.

Any ideas?

PMS: Channel not responding.

Hi all,

I just made a reinstall of Fedora 23 with Gnome, like a minimum install.
My setup is a new Desktop as PMS with a PS4, Laptop and CP as Clients. I use a Asus Router, which is also a Mini-DNLA Server with 500 GB.
My PMS Server is a Intel Pentium CPU G3260 3.30GHz × 2 (64 Bit) with 4 GB Kingston RAM and 500 GB. Harddisk.

Currently i only got 2 Channels on it, South Park and Webtools.
But every time i try to play a movie i get a: 'This channel is not responding.'
Not really sure why, so i attached my PMS Logs and PMS Plug-In Logs?

Upgrade failed

Attempted a manual upgrade of PMS today since my Android app no longer was able to see the server. I downloaded version 0.9.16.6.1993-5089475 which seems to be the latest.. I didn't see any error messages, or anything related to a failed install, but PMS won't start now and I don't see any logs that indicate why.

anyway, here is the output when manually installing:

Trigger a refresh for specific TV Show at a later time

My main goal with this question is to find out if it is possible to get Plex Media Server to rescan for subtitles after an episode has been added. Right now I've activated the OpenSubtitle agent and that works fine, IF a subtitle is available at the time of adding the episode. But if it's not yet available, I have to manually log in through the web interface and hit refresh for the specific TV Show, to get it to check again. Is it possible to trigger that kind of refresh again at a later time? Possibly via a cron job that interacts with the API?

I couldn't find anything in the forum or documentation about my specific issue, but maybe my Google-foo isn't up for the task. Hopefully some of you guys can help me out?

Thanks in advantage. :)

PlexReport - A Weekly Summary of your Plex server

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but figured I'd start here:

I have a Plex server that servers out 20-ish users.  Not all of them pay that much attention to my Plex server; for some, it is just a tool to use when Netflix fails.  Others use it once a day.  I was seeking a way to notify users of what new content was added to my Plex server, without them having to go log on and check themselves.  So I wrote the following script to email out all my users this summary.

What does it report?

This script pulls all new TV episodes, full seasons, and movies that have been added to a Plex server in the last week, and puts it into a (hopefully pretty) HTML email body.

Who does it send it to?

Anyone you are sharing your server with.

What do I need to run it?

Ruby, some gems, your Plex API key, and you need to be using themoviedb.org for your Movies agent, and thetvdb.org for your TV Show agent.  See the github page below for more details.

Why didn't you include <insert feature here>?

I wrote this script for myself originally, so some things were tailored for my setup (such as what agents the Plex server uses).  Now that I am putting it here, I am completely open to new ideas and features, and will try to get to them in a timely matter.

What about Windows/Mac support?

Since this is written in Ruby, there is no reason why this couldn't work with either OS, though ATM that remains untested.

Cannot update Debian Wheezy

Hey all,

I looked for this topic but couldn't find it already.

I'm running Wheezy and noticed I'm running Plex Version 0.9.14.6.

On my plex server it states "An update is available. Please install manually. "

But if I run "apt-get upgrade" I don't see Plex listed there..

So do I have to download the .deb file and install that?

And then the only cure is to restore from backup. But then it happens again because a small single core NAS isn't somehow magically going to get faster.

I've rolled back to a known good backup several times today, and every time a rescan kicks off, it all gets corrupted all over.

Plex is becoming increasingly unusuably broken.

Plex never stop scanning and does not pick up new content.

Hi;

I'm new to Plex, and for the most part I've got everything to work ok.

However, I've hit a problem where Plex doesn't seem to want to add any new Movies to it's library. The scanning "spinner" keeps going round and round. If I cancel the scan and start it again I get the same result.

I've installed Plex on a hosted server - it has access to the internet and it has scanned and added to its Library any Movies that were in the folder originally.

I've stopped and restarted the service a few times with the same results.

I've tailed the log files to see if there is anything that stands out - but I'm unable to see anything obvious.

I'm running version 0.9.16.6.

High traffic outgoing nothings playing

Plex Buffering on Local Network

Just finished setting up Plex, and am quite unfamiliar with Linux in general. I have my server, my NAS content, and player all on the same network. The content doesn't seem to be streaming fast enough to allow continuous playback, and results in buffering every few seconds unless I pause to allow it to load. Is Is there a setting somewhere, or something I did wrong that's causing this? Or is it because I'm using a NAS drive to hold my content and using Plex as a sort of middle man?

My setup is a Raspberry Pi 3 running Ubuntu Mate 16.04.
http://www.htpcguides.com/install-plex-media-server-raspberry-pi-3-image/

My content is hosted on a WD My Cloud 4 TB (the slim kind that can't run Plex itself)
Mounted on the server using this guide
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/08/map-network-drive-onto-ubuntu-14-04/

And just in case it's relevant, though I don't think it is, I don't have a monitor connected to it, and just remote desktop using TeamViewer, bypassing the monitor restriction using this guide

How to capture notifications

Hello, I need help to capture Plex notifications on the command line using curl, websocket and then output to a file. I tried this command but it doesn't work: curl http://192.168.1.100:32400/:/websockets/notifications > output

The above command works if I use eventsource instead of websockets, but I need to use websockets and output to a file. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Ok, I reach my 200 subs limit per day ,, now what?

Finally my subs are working automatically downloaded from opensubtitles ... I add to my libraries a bunch of series and movies, and of course, i quickly reach my 200 subs limit (i try to download one subs manually from the webpage itself and can't do it due to the limits restrictions... thats fine). If i wait 24 hours the missings subs don't load automatically, it's there a way to manually tell plex to look for the missing subs? I try to update library but doesn't work. Any idea would be appreciated.

New Server, Fresh Install, only partial functionality Ubuntu 16.04

I've had a look through the forums, but I can't seem to find a working solution to my problem.

I've just got a new server, fresh install of ubuntu 16.04, and clean install the latest plex (plexpass) Version 0.9.16.6.1993-5089475
(I've also tried removing/purge and reinstall)

when I try and connect to plex (https://avro:32400/web/ the web player interface comes up but it sits there saying looking for server... if I start up plex on my old server (sopwith) it pops up in the interface, but nothing from my new server (Avro)

The logs seem to indicate it starting... but I just can seem to see it and use it...

Failed installation - starting from a clean slate

My long term plan is to re-install my physical PMS server but as I am looking to switch distributions I am using a virtual machine to go through the motions and see how things work out.

I've opted to give Lubuntu 15.04 (64-bit) a try and things were going well until I tried to install PMS.

In hindsight, I'm kicking myself for not using the snapshot feature to take an image of the virtual machine, but all I will have lost (if I can't resolve this) is time.

I downloaded the latest 64-deb package and installed it. That seemed to go OK, but the first thing I noticed upon trying to access the web GUI was the absence of the setup wizard. I tried reloading the web GUI a couple of more times and still no setup wizard. To clarify there I did see a Plex GUI, but the setup wizard didn't start.

I decided to try again with the installation. I ran -

sudo dpkg -r plexmediaserver

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/plexmediaserver

I rebooted the machine (just to make sure there were no PMS-related executables still running) and re-ran the installer.

This time I noticed new messages during the command line installation process:-

 sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_0.9.12.1.1079-b655370_amd64.deb

Is it start from scratch time? or is there something I can do to fully remove the failed PMS installation which will allow me to re-run the installer (hopefully with success) without having to trash the entire virtual machine?

Thanks in anticipation.

package is in a very bad inconsistent state (PLEX)

Library decided to stop syncing

I have a movie library, and a tv library. They're on WD NAS and everything was fine until 2 days ago when I added 5 more episodes and 2 movies to my collection. The movies appeared but the 5 different episodes do not. Nothing has changed, and I can still watch other TV shows, etc. When I refresh after a few moments I lose the server, and if I hit update, it says complete almost immediately afterwards. Now, the only thing is the TV NAS is almost full, still has 21g left on it though...

For the past week I have been searching forums, getting myself familiarized with Linux (Ubuntu 16.04).

I built a server out of my old PC after a recent upgrade, and moved all my media streaming off my Synology NAS (couldn't handle transcoding all my files) to this new server.

My main problem is I cannot access Plex outside of my LAN when I am using OpenVPN, works fine when disabled.
I'm trying to build an iptable, or anything, that I can route Plex traffic outside the VPN I'm on, in order to hopefully get remote working like it does when I turn off the VPN.

When I go to my settings and "Remote Server" I can see a green check after my private IP, another after my public IP, and it says at the top that Plex is fully accessible outside of my network. For some reason, this is inaccurate.

For a breakdown:
- Server running Ubuntu 16.04
- Plex is Version 0.9.16.6
- Server is setup for OpenVPN (tun0)
- Server connects to router which then connects to modem and outside world
- Would love to setup an iptable that guides Plex traffic to not use the tun0 VPN connection
- All other connections use the VPN (tun0)
- Port for Plex that says it has access is 8888 (Port opened by VPN)

The command to even load this file into iptables won't work, keep getting errors around the line 24 [for i in /proc/]
I would love any help, it will greatly reduce my sleepless nights and stress with this issue!

Here are my useless attempts so far (file called iptables.rules)

#!/bin/bash

# This script configures "selective" VPN routing. Normally, OpenVPN will route ALL traffic out
# the OpenVPN tunnel. These changes to iptables allow some outbound traffic to use the VPN, and some
# traffic to bypass the VPN and use the regular Internet instead.
#
# To list the current rules on the router, issue the command:
# iptables -t mangle -L PREROUTING
#
# Flush/reset all the rules to default by issuing the command:
# iptables -t mangle -F PREROUTING
#
#
# First it is necessary to disable Reverse Path Filtering on all
# current and future network interfaces:
#
for i in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter ; do
echo 0 > $i
done
#
# Delete and table 100 and flush any existing rules if they exist.
#
ip route flush table 100
ip route del default table 100
ip rule del fwmark 1 table 100
ip route flush cache
iptables -t mangle -F PREROUTING
#
# Copy all non-default and non-VPN related routes from the main table into table 100.
# Then configure table 100 to route all traffic out the WAN gateway and assign it mark "1"
#
# NOTE: Here I assume the OpenVPN tunnel is named "tun11".
#
#
ip route show table main | grep -Ev ^default | grep -Ev tun0 \
| while read ROUTE ; do
ip route add table 100 $ROUTE
done
ip route add default table 100 via $(nvram get wan_gateway)
ip rule add fwmark 1 table 100
ip route flush cache
#
# Define the routing policies for the traffic. The rules will be applied in the order that they
# are listed. In the end, packets with MARK set to "0" will pass through the VPN. If MARK is set
# to "1" it will bypass the VPN.
#
# EXAMPLES:
#
# All LAN traffic will bypass the VPN (Useful to put this rule first, so all traffic bypasses the VPN and you can configure exceptions afterwards)

Issues Opening 32400 port to remote connect to CentOS PMS

I am running CentOS7 PMS server behind the Juniper SRX firewall (which also serves as a router)
I have opened the port on the firewall successfully and logged into the PMS server.
However I am getting an error on remote connection. I am testing from outside and it produces an error:

Error: I could not see your service on 72.89.XX.XX on port (32400)

Since I had to open SSH tunnel to connect to CentOS_PMS-ip:32400/web are there any internal firewall setting on CentOS that needs to be adjusted or anything else that needs to be done besides opening the 32400 port?

See attached.
