Ok got a not so unique situation I think. I have a Plex server installed on a Ubuntu Server VM. All my media is stored on my Windows server shared out. Camera upload will not work when I point the library to the Windows server share that is mounted through the Ubuntu VM. My other media is stored there like movies, tv shows etc.. I have granted anonymous to the shares for permissions but still will not upload. Need some guidance please.
Ubuntu Server with Plex installed on. Camera upload won't work to windows shares.
Beginner looking for PMS install guide for P1 3 model B on RASPBIAN JESSIE
Just bought the Pi 3 model 3 and im looking for instructions on where to start with installing PMS. Not a Linux user. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Problem doing the Plex dance
Sometimes the TV scanner fails to load the proper metadata for a TV episode and the details default to blanks and default title. The do over is known as the Plex dance whereby the media is removed from the library, run scanner, empty trash. The problem is when the media has embedded Title property. It is picked by Plex and is stuck even if the Title property is removed from media and trash is emptied. The old title will reappear after a scan and the only solution is a manual edit of the title.
Any ideas?
how can i sort my images?

Plex Server appears offline on Raspberry Pi 3
I setup a Plex Media Server on a Raspberry Pi 3 using these instructions.
Everything worked fine the first day. Then I went to use it another day and it was offline. The HDD that's connected via USB goes into sleep mode so I thought maybe that's what the issue was, so I remoted into the RSP3 and woke up the drive so I can see the media files in their directory but still the PMS server appears offline.
How can I tell the status of the PMS from my headless RSP3 over terminal and when it's offline what do I need to do to get it back online? Rebooting the RSP3 does not get it back online either
Thanks
Steven

How to remove Plex from autostart.on Ubuntu
Every time I start my laptop, Plex starts too. I run a small laptop, with not much resources and sometimes I need all I can get, but I can't seem to find where to remove plex from autostart. I'v checked inside plex, and on ubuntus startup, but no where to be found.
Anyone that knows how to prevent Plex from autostarting? :(
Plex won't index files on new installation
I had an OpenMediaVault Server running Plex until yesterday. I moved to Debian Jessy which I set up by myself. The RAID array with my home folder and my music was not changed. Permissions are correct.
Owner: my user
Gruop: plex
Files: rw-r-----
Folders: rwxr-x---
So, plex group should be able to access all folders and read all files. It scanned my movies and added everything. Then it scanned my music and added only two albums from Motörhead and DAvie Bowie. The rest 99% of my music are not found.
Permissions are identical for all folders and subfolders.
Log says the folders are added
...

Jun 19, 2016 12:36:36.534 [0x7f4c61488800] DEBUG - Adding subdirectory for scanner: /home/me/Music/Benny Benassi

But obviously never scanned. No Errors in the log, just debug messages.
What's going on here? My files worked so file names must be okay.
Plex Media Server on Ubuntu Server Using Large Amounts of Storage
I have yet another problem with plex storing large amounts of data for seemingly no reason. on my ubuntu server box plex has successfully 100% filled my root drive with junk, so much so that not even an empty document could be created due to a "no disk space" error. That was about two weeks ago, today i noticed plex is doing the same exact thing again but luckily i caught it before it filled the drive and caused any more issues. the directory its flooding with garbage is
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost
which after two weeks already has 18G of files in it, all *.bundle files. last time i wiped the directory and saw no ill side effects, leading me to believe this is some cache that is unnecessarily building up.
What i need: either a way to control the amount of garbage plex keeps insisting on storing, or a way to prevent plex from storing any at all.
the current work around I'm going to go with is to change the permissions of all of plex's directories so plex can only read and not write to them but this is obviously not a long term solution. I've heard of some setting somewhere that makes it possible to limit how much cache plex uses but i have yet to see said option. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
How to connect to movie library on the remote windows server from CentOS?
I am running PLEX Media Server on CentOS 7 but the movies library with content is located on the remote Windows server 2012 R2. Both servers on the same network and can see each other. How do I specify path to remotely connect to mount the network shared folder D:\MOVIES on the CentOS?
Thanks in advance...
Can't access Plex securely
Plex has been working flawlessly for over a year. Haven't made any changes other than updating Ubuntu Server. All of a sudden, I can no longer access Plex securely. I have no idea why. I didn't change or update any settings on the server (recently) or the router (ever).
Would appreciate some help on the matter. I'm lost.
I also noticed, when this happened, that I can no longer delete media through the plex interface. I know this likely doesn't have anything to do with the security feature, but despite me even opening up the file permissions to everyone I still can't delete any of my files through their interface.
Looking forward to responses.
Thanks,
M
Server unavailable remotely
As of Monday I'm unable to connect to PMS remotely. When I'm on the home network it all loads. The server itself is assigned a static local IP, and the router is configured to redirect all external requests to that one static IP. The router has also specified that static IP as a DMZ for testing purposes and it makes no difference. If I try to access the Web UI at https://app.plex.tv/web/app it simply shows this: https://i.imgur.com/IqlOVIJ.png. The same is true when accessing the server directly with its public IP, so https://my_public_ip:32400/web/app. The latter fact is strange, because if the server was unavailable, none of the Web UI would even load. I have several other services running on the machine, like SSH, which work normally, so connectivity is not an issue.
When looking at the server settings from the Web UI when in the home network, none of the IPs can be found: https://i.imgur.com/LFD9yX4.png. I'm running the latest version, 0.9.16.6
.
Further, when on iOS, the server is unavailable (https://i.imgur.com/crAYM7C.png), but there's an exclamation point that, when clicked, somehow allows an "indirect" connection (https://i.imgur.com/AGyp8Sp.png), though I have no idea what that means.
Here is what the server log reports after just attempting to make a connection to the Web UI, and the Web UI stating that the server is unavailable:

Has someone got any suggestions?
Note that my signature is outdated: all versions of Plex I've got installed on various devices are current.
Plex not downloading all metadata
So I'm not sure what to do with this, but recently all the new movies added to my plex server are not grabbing all the metadata.
My new movies are grabbing the actors, director, rating, and genre, however they are not grabbing the synopsis or the movie posters anymore.
I tried clearing the cache as described HERE and then forcing a refresh, but that didn't fix the problem.
I checked for updates and am currently up to date, and am running on linux mint.
Any suggestions?
Trying to move Metadata Locatation
i am trying to move the place plex store all metadata and indexing stuff because i have a 120gb hdd as the boot drive and plex fills it up fast so i wanted to move it to my media drive /media/media01/meta but to no avail ive had to delete plex entirely since it filled up my drive and couldnt create anymore files and so my system hung.
i am running debian 8 jesse it is also headless so i only have access via ssh. with no problems with plex except it being impossible to move where it saves metadata. i've tried most guides on google but to no avail. i haven't gotten sym links to work.
the metadata created is usuallu over 60gb since i have 2tb of shows.
any help would be apreciated since ive stayed up for 3 hours and couldnt figure it out myself.
Running Plex Media Server on the Pine64
Hi all,
I currently have Plex Media Server installed on a Raspberry Pi 2 B+ and, whilst it will play video, it's taking a severe beating.
I'm currently awaiting my Pine64 computer (www.pine64.com) and whilst I've seen a number of posts on here about getting OpenPHT or Rasplex running on it as a client, I'd like to try and make use of the Cortex-A53 armv8 processor as a server instead.
The "mobile passmark" for the only cortex-a53 I can find here is 10868, suggesting that it will do an excellent job, however, I suspect that the mobile passmark is not equivalent to the desktop/notebook passmark.
Can anyone confirm/deny my assumption and possibly guide me in the direction of better data? https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ doesn't appear to deal with ARM processors so it's difficult to know how well this will work in advance!
Thanks,
Matt
VPN Passthrough
I use a VPN for work on my server machine, but I'd prefer that Plex didn't go through that VPN. I've read here how to bypass that vpn for certain domains.
Does Plex use a singular domain for sync, apps and browsing or does it connect directly to whatever network my devices are on?
Installing PMS on the new Pine64
Hi all,
I just received my Pine64 through the post and thought I'd write up how I got PMS running on it.
The reason for wanting to do so? The Pine64 uses 64-bit architecture and is a quad-core Cortex A8 processor, so should pack a reasonable punch.
The first thing to be aware of is that this is an "arm64" architecture, and therefore we seem to need to jump through a few hoops before we can use the "normal" raspbian install mode and @uglymagoo's repos.
Step 1: Prepare the system
Download the longsleep Debian 8 image from https://www.pine64.com/downloads and burn it to an SD card. If you don't know how to do this, then the Raspberry Pi Foundation have a good guide at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/installing-images/README.md for Mac, Windows and Linux.
One thing I did notice is that the initial root partition is only 3.5G in size. You'll need to grow this using gparted or a similar tool before you boot, otherwise Plex will fail because it runs out of disk space.
Step 2: Install the software
Once you've booted the Pine64 successfully, we can proceed with the installation of the Plex Media Server.
I followed the instructions at http://www.htpcguides.com/install-plex-media-server-on-raspberry-pi-2/ however, when it talks about adding the debian package repository, you need to do a few things slightly differently via the following commands:
# Run add the ARMHF architecture to the Debian Packages that can be installed here
sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf
# Make sure that we install the correct version of the arm package
echo "deb [arch=armhf] https://dev2day.de/pms/ jessie main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pms.list
# Update the package lists
sudo apt-get update
# Install the media server and all the dependencies
sudo apt-get install binutils:armhf plexmediaserver-installer -y
This should then install and start the media server.
Issues
So far, the main issue I've found is the architecture one. I'm hoping that at some point, Plex will release an Arm64 version of the code natively so that this cheap little computer can handle it all :)
As with all small-board versions of Plex that I've tried, I've had the most success by using "Direct Play" instead of Transcoding, however the web interface is nice and quick to respond, and streaming to my PlexApp (sideloaded on to my NowTV) seems to work well.
I hope this is of use to some people! :)
How to move Plex's data on Linux
The purpose of this 'How To' is to show you how to move your existing PMS data directory ( /var/lib/plexmediaserver) transparently to another location, either locally or on your NAS.
In this example, 'systemctl' (systemd) is used. Use the command appropriate for your system
Points to consider:
- First, pick a location which has enough space (now and the foreseeable future). "/home" usually makes a great location for this since it survives OS installations and upgrades. /home/plexdir is used in this example.
- The location should not be something dynamically mounted (external USB, etc).
- The new location must be mounted automatically when the machine boots (before Plex is started). This means an entry exists in /etc/fstab for it.
- It is strongly advised to keep the new location at the 'top level' of the new file system location (root dir of a hard drive or top of a NAS share)
- If you do place your Plex data on your NAS / local lan, be advised to take care in making certain user 'plex' has all the appropriate permissions on the other machine
Performing the actual move
# Get a root shell for the following commands
sudo sh
# Stop Plex (use whatever command / method you normally use to stop Plex)
systemctl stop plexmediaserver
# Create the new destination directory ( I will use /home/plexdir in this example )
mkdir /home/plexdir
# Set ownership permissions
chown plex:plex /home/plexdir
# Copy the existing library to the new location
cd /var/lib/plexmediaserver
tar cf - . | (cd /home/plexdir ; tar xf - )
# Move the current library out of the way (to be deleted later)
mv Library Library.orig
# Create the redirection symbolic link
ln -s /home/plexdir/Library ./Library
# Start Plex and verify everything is ok.
# If no errors were printed during the transfer, and you didn't skip any permissions steps, the move will be invisible.
systemctl start plexmediaserver
# Delete the original library
rm -rf /var/lib/plexplexmediaserver/Library.orig
# exit the root shell
exit
Movies folder
I have a PMS on a linux server. My problem is when I add movies to the movies folder. If there is a folder in the Movies folder. The movie still plays. However the list of subtitles is wrong, and hows 100's of subtitles. So for example. plex/Movies/Captain.America/Camptain.America.mkv
This is where the problem is. Do I have to add all folders without the Sub Folder?
[Ubuntu 14.04/0.9.17+] Transcoder ignoring quality settings for remote streams
I'm having a problem with PMS for Linux, version 0.9.17+. PMS seems to be ignoring the quality settings any remote user sets on their client. This is seen on Roku as well as Plex Web (Chrome). No matter the quality setting used, like Original/Direct Stream, or 8mbps/1080p, or 4mbps/720, the transcoder only does around 268p - a 2.35x1 1080p movie would always get transcoded to 480x200, and tv shows would be of a similar small resolution. However, quality settings work fine when streaming from the same network as the PMS - this only effects remote users (ones not on the same LAN as the PMS). I've tested this with every version of 0.9.17.*, and as soon as I downgraded back to 0.9.16.6, the remote streams were transcoding to the proper resolution (as set by the plex client). I do have plenty of upstream bandwidth (80-90mbps) to handle the streams. Also, I'm using PlexPy which shows the resolution the stream is transcoding at.
I'll note that I had a remote user try to stream from my macbook, running PMS 0.9.17.3, and the quality settings seem fine, so this appears to only be a problem with the linux version.
I can include PMS logs but I'd like to see if any other users are reporting the same issue first.
