PMS has a "Plex Pass" splash screen over home page, that can not be closed

$
0
0

Current installed version: plexmediaserver_0.9.16.6.1993-5089475_amd64
When accessing PMS webpage from the server it is on, a "Plex Pass" splash screen that can not be cancelled nor does not go away. There is "spinning wheel of death" at the bottom of the page and an "x" in upper right that does not work.

Going to this home page from any other machine, this splash page does not show, just on the server.

Between this and inability of choosing which IP on multi-home equipment is getting bad. Visio, and Haier+RokuTV just fail badly. If you know that ypur software will pick-up ALL IP and your use cases "knew" that equipment can not handle it (phyiscal or poor understanding) as your "it your fault and not ours" page... Give us the ability to choose which IP we want to use instead of crippling equipment because of your known issues.

[CentOS 7] Systemd overide.conf env var left blank?

$

Coming from: 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e
Updating to: 1.0.1.2396-c094d0d

After updating Plex and starting through systemd, Plex would not start. An env:var was left blank (not by me) and uncommented. Causing the following error:
systemctl status plexmediaserver: ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c /usr/bin/test -d "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}" || /bin/mkdir -p "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}" (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Issue file: /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/overide.conf
Issue line: Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR=

Fix: Add path to variable or comment out.

I did not change this file (I didn't even know it existed) but it seems it as changed and broke restarting Plex.

Question: Is this a bug or intentional?

NVENC Support in Transcoder

$

Yesterday got FFMPEG with NVENC working on one of my Linux machines, and it strikes me as potentially extremely useful to other people who use a relatively small server for PMS, for example a HP G7 Microserver. It's CPU is rather underpowered, but if you add in a passively cooled Nvidia Kepler card (e.g. GT630), it's H.264 encoding engine can be used (and it doesn't make the shader processors busy, either, it's independent asynchronous piece of hardware). In my tests it can transcode 10Mbit H.264 1080p input file to 2Mbit H.264 1080p at 60fps (i.e. twice as fast as realtime) and DVD MPEG2 content at about 125fps, which means it would be useful even for a multi-user server.

I understand that the PMS Transcoder is based on FFMPEG, so FFMPEG being GPL, where can I get the source code and build scripts for it?

Obviously, modifying PMST isn't sufficient, it would need to be wrapped different to replace "-c:v libx264" with "-c:v libnvenc" in the invocation, preferably with a check beforehand (or at startup time) to verify that NVENC is available. Is the source code for the component that invokes PMST availale?

Since v1 PMS scheduled tasks are using a lot of HDD

Im not sure why this is happening now. I don't know what changed with v1 but this much activity on my drives never occurred before v1 automatically. I'm seeing up to 90MB/s reads for an hour across all my storage drives every day. http://puu.sh/q3BtQ/a8155ff34f.png

I don't know why this is now required especially every day, maybe once a week would make sense but there isn't anything I can find in the PMS settings to adjust this behaviour other than scheduled task times. For the past 22 days this has been happening which to me seems excessive.

Looking at the Plex media Server.log files There's a lot of deleting/re-adding of metadata and lots of deep scanning although this stuff only occurs for a period of one hour when my scheduled tasks are set from 3am-7am?

Just trying to figure out if this is something that will finish once it has completed my entire library(?) and why is it even happening if it didn't before v1 (currently running Version 1.0.1.2396)

Plex Media Server Crash

My PMS crashed this morning and I have NO clue why. I've rebooted the server multiple times, and it just won't start up. The only thing I can see the logs is the following error:

ERROR - Network Service: Error in browser handle read: 125 (Operation canceled) socket=-1

Server Version: 1.0.1.2396
Platform: Ubuntu 16.04

I've attached the log file. Please could you have a look and see what the problem might be?

[Debian Jessie/Ubuntu Server 16.04]: Plex server becomes unresponsive

Debian Jessie: 3.16.0-4-amd64
Also tested with Ubuntu server 16.04, same exact symptoms.
Plex Server Verizon: 1.0.0.226
Hardware Specs: KVM Virtual Machine (HOST CPU option), 8 cores from an E5-2680v3, 12GB ram, SSD storage (I control the host machine, it's under almost no load). Media files are accessed via NFS share over 10Gbit.

When I attempt to use plex kodi connect with my plex server, within a minute or two of it beginning to scan the plex library the plex server becomes unresponsive. The PMS process does not crash outright but i'm unable to access the web interface/clients are unable to connect. Restarting the plex server process is the only solution. It's as if the plex server is unable to handle the load, but i've yet to find a single other person with this issue. This has happened for months now i've just never gotten around to posting so it's not related to this particular version of any of this software. This happens literally every time I try to use PKC at all. Thanks for any help, i'm totally at a loss here. Please let me know if additional logs are helpful.

How to change the folder location of Application Support directory in Linux Mint 17.3?

I've gone into /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service to change PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR to where I want it to live, have restarted plex and even rebooted the computer, but the new location does not take. What am I missing?

Lost Extra Content in Plex Premium Music

$

Hi, First post for a long time.
I updated PMS earlier today to 1.0.1.2396.
I'm running OpenSUSE 13.2 x86_64 with kernel 3.16.7-35
Machine is a Lenovo ThinkCentre A70 with Core2Duo E8600 (3.3 Ghz) and 4GB RAM

I've lost the extra stuff in my premium music library, not sure when this happened, i.e. whether it's a result of this update or a previous update. What I mean is, the vevo video thumbnails that used to display when viewing a particular artist, no longer appear.
I've checked the agent settings and vevo is ticked as expected. Everything else appears to be working fine. I've even sto[ped and restarted, with no affect.
Has anyone any ideas that might help?

Many Thanks

RSS Feed of Newly Added Contents?

Just got Plex added as part of my automation workflow and it is amazing. I've got a RSS feed setup to pull contents for my family, and Plex monitoring the directory for new contents, which will then surface itself on Plex once it is completed. Now, to make this even more awesome, I'd love to have a RSS feed setup such that when new contents are added to Plex library, so we can all setup IFTTT to monitor and send us a push notification for things we want to watch. Supposedly, there's a http://IP:32400/library/sections/1/recentlyAdded URL I could visit which was suppose to give me something to work with, but all I get is 401 Unauthorized. How'd I come about setting up the authorization, so that I can hack something together there?

Movies not streaming, but music does?

I'm running PMS on Debian Linux via Open Media Vault plugin. Everything has been fine with the server until recently. It won't stream video! I am able to stream music, but none of my movies or TV shows will stream. The server is running the latest version. I've tried rebooting the server and restarting the server to no avail. How can I troubleshoot why video is not streaming?

PMS Version 1.0.0.2261, Plex Web 2.7.0, playlist not showing IE 11

Hallo,

I am running a PMS on Debian 7.11. Recently I upgraded it to PMS version 1.0.0.2261.

Today I noticed a problem with my playlists. On my PC using I.E 11.

I cannot display the playlists by selecting them from the libraries menu on the left nor the dropdown at the top of the screen. The screen goes blank and the orange spinner is showing.

They partially show up on the dash board and I can start playing them but it is not possible to open them and select titles from it.

Plex Web is version 2.7.0.

The playlists are showing on the server itself in iceweasle and on my Samsung TV.

Any hint on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Linux Server loads and displays .AVI files, But can't stream them.

So my system is an Ubuntu 14.04 machine with decent specs, and I am able to load both my Movies folder and my TV shows folder, and mind you this all worked perfectly on my old (windows system) And it displays them and shows there meta data, and is able to find them on my disk, but neither of my roku 2's can play anything that is an AVI file, and I have a mix of mp4's mkv's and AVI's.
I have the newest version of Plex media server, where as I did not on my old system. Would plex really take away the capability to play my files?....just doesn't make sense, but I've scoured the forums and I have found people talk about similar problems but I have yet to find a solution.
Can anyone help?

PMS on Ubuntu transcodes, PMS on Windows direct plaY

Hi,
I've just setup PMS on my hp n54l running Ubuntu server 14.04. As playback devices I have a nexus 7 (2013),samsun note 3,ipad 3 and a macbook pro.
Watching 1080p movies with dts audio stream results in very choppy playback on my nexus 7,although the integrated movie player can play the video directly from the smb share.
The overlay indicates that video and audio are transcoded.

The one thing I don't understand ist durcu that if I install PMS on my xeon 3 3ghz Windows 8 desktop machine, the same movie can be played on the nexus 7 WITHOUT video transcoding, only audio is transcoded (at least that's what the overlay information shows).

Can somebody explain me why?
Thx!

Problems mounting volumes through rar2fs

$

Hi there,

I m a really newcomer in Linux so please apologize me if my problem has a very simple solution, lets start.

I m trying to mount a volume through the use of rar2fs and I m coming into the following problems:

alexbass@Baratalia:/$ sudo rar2fs /dev/sdc1 /home/alexbass/Pelis

rar2fs: invalid source and/or mount point

mount command with the same values works smoothly

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /home/alexbass/Pelis

alexbass@Baratalia:/$ cd /home/alexbass/Pelis
alexbass@Baratalia:~/Pelis$ ls
Documentales Estrenos lost+found PelisCJ Pelis Español Pelis VO Series TV

I m unable to mount the desired volume through the use of rar2fs this can be simply because rar2fs is intended to mount folders and not volumes, but I will elaborate later

If I try to mount an existing folder it appear to work but in despite of the fact that I use the -o allow_other option, Plex is not able to find any of the folder contained in the mounted volume.

alexbass@Baratalia:~$ sudo rar2fs /home/alexbass/Pelis /home/alexbass/Pelis2 -o allow_other
rar2fs[3037]: mounted /home/alexbass/Pelis2
alexbass@Baratalia:~$ cd /home/alexbass/Pelis2
alexbass@Baratalia:~/Pelis2$ ls
Documentales Estrenos lost+found PelisCJ Pelis Español Pelis VO Series TV

/dev/sdb1 is the disk that i want to show to Plex

SEGV after moving to a new machine

After moving to a new machine I only get SEGV start error when starting from systemd. When I run plex manually I don't run into this problem.

Can I turn on some sort of debug mode that would give me more info on what the crash is caused by?

My manual start script:

#!/bin/bash
export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR=/var/lib/plexmediaserver
export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver
export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8

Cant use the latest release - have to stay on 0.9.16.6

Hi guys,

i´m using PMS 0.9.16.6 on a custom build NAS with OpenMediaVault (Debian/Unix).
I can update to the latest 1.x version but if i do so, no streaming works. I can still browse through all my content but it always throws playback error. Every device is effected (aTV4, Safari, iPhone, iPad).
If i install the 0.9.16.6 again, everything works fine again.

Has someone a hint what i can proof/check or what the problem could be?

many thanks in advance :)

Hi,

I tried invite an user to my plex server (that uses linux based, 0.9.16.4 version). The invited user: "Username". It registered nowdays. When I try to invite, the server says: You're already sharing this server with "username". Please edit your existing share.
Earlier I invited user, which username withoit any caps character.

The http://plex.tv/ not denied the new user registration, but I can't invite it. I want invite both person (username and Username).
