Sorting on date taken and showing exif data

Hi,

If I configure my Photos to sort on "date taken" will plexmediaserver use the exif date information, or does it take the timestamp on the filesystem?

Also, why doesn't the exif date show when getting a particular photo's info? It does show a lot of the exif info, like aperture, exposure, iso, but doesn't show the date information.
