Sudden "Looking for servers" error on CentOS

$

I have been successfully running Plex on a headless server with CentOS 7 for quite a while now, but I'm suddenly unable to access it. The web app simply displays "Looking for servers..." I'm not sure when it happened exactly, but it was definitely working a couple days ago.

I don't have local access to the machine, but when I SSH in, everything looks fine. I can even access the plex web app through the server's public IP address, but that also shows "Looking for servers..."

I was adding some movies to my library today, so perhaps that's when the issue started? I updated Plex to the latest version to see if that would do anything. When it didn't, I also tried the DVR beta version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Local server requests sign-in when accessed via hostname but not via IP address

Hello, I've set up a new plex server internal to my network that is to be local-only, no plex link (I have two plex-linked servers elsewhere). When I access it via its IP address I can access the server without sign-in, however when I use its hostname, despite this resolving to the machine's IP address and me getting connected to the right machine, I get asked for a plex sign-in. The logs show the following;

Aug 27, 2016 17:47:05.892 [0x7f2e25ffd700] DEBUG - NetworkServiceBrowser: SERVER arrived: 127.0.0.1 (servint)

So this shows it's at least recognised its own name at one point in the start-up. Then when I access the server via its hostname I get this;

Aug 27, 2016 17:47:15.504 [0x7f2e2a7ff700] DEBUG - Request came in with unrecognized domain 'servint' in header Host; treating as non-local

Essentially it doesn't recognise its own name and treats the request as external despite the "Authorised networks" network and netmask being set correctly in the config (as I say I'm not asked for authentication when I connect using the IP address). I can also run "ssh root@servint" and it gets me to the right place, so far it seems to be just Plex that is having a problem recognising the machine's name. It picks it up in the server config fields and shows the right name as its "friendly name".

It's version 1.1.2.2680-09e98fb installed fresh today.

Plex DVR beta - which linux OS/versions are available?

I'm using Fedora (from Vortexbox install) and added PMS from the Vortexbox plug-in option (then used dnf/yum to update it to latest official release). Is there a DVR beta Fedora build?

And then I try to reach the server via :32400/web/index.html in Chrome and the only thing I get is an error page that the server isnt answering. What is wrong?

Cannot connect to Plex Media Server over LAN after OS upgrade

I had Plex running successfully on Linux Lite 2.8 but after upgrading to Linux Lite 3.0 on both the Media Server device and my laptop I am unable to connect to the media server on the LAN. I have made sure that I have done everything suggested here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204604227-Why-can-t-the-Plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-Plex-Media-Server- without success. When I upgraded my OS I preserved user data and I wonder whether this is causing the problem. I have given both devices a static IP address but changed these when I upgraded, could this be an issue. I purged Plex from my server and re-installed it should I do the same on the laptop?

Events

Friday 5pm CST
Finished uploading all the media and had begun the conversion process.

Friday 7pm CST
Conversion finished, began sync

Friday 10pm CST
One show finished syncing and the second began

Friday 12pm CST
Discovered that the syncing has stopped for some reason. I restart the phone and attempt to restart the syncing process. It decides to start even with the already synced show but errors out due to communication issue.

Friday 1am CST
I login to a remote network that has the server on it as well and I am not able to login via SSH nor even ping it.

Sunday 5PM EST
The server went back up on its own and is transmitting normally.

What could have happened? What logs should I look at? Why would Plex App wipe out all the already synced shows? I know they were actually synced because I set airplane mode and played them just fine.

external .srt not seen by plex

As far as i can see my plex clients don't have an option to play external .srt. Just before playing a movie I go under the subtitles paramenters and all I can see is an option to enabe/disable internal subtitles only, however an external .srt does exist indeed in the same folder where the video file is located.

is this a bug?

Thanks

Media Server Setup Wizard Issue on Ubuntu Server 16.04

Hello all,

I have a strange issue which I've been trying to solve for a couple of days now: after installing PMS according to the official installation documentation and accessing it for the first time, the initial setup wizard won't start, and thus, my Plex account won't pick up the server. It is a fresh Ubuntu Server 16.04 installation, and literally nothing else is running on this server.

I've gone through everything here, but still no luck. I've tried restarting the system service after boot thinking it could be a systemd issue, but that does absolutely diddly. I've completely purged the application and all configuration files from the system several times, and I've even gone through another fresh Ubuntu Server installation, still to no avail.

Has anyone experienced something similar, and if so, were you able to fix it/how? Many thanks in advance to anyone/everyone who might provide some insight/advice as to how to fix this.

Questions

What could have happened? What logs should I look at? Why would Plex App wipe out all the already synced shows? I know they were actually synced because I set airplane mode and played them just fine.

I do not understand this occurred. Why did the content that was already get wiped out because the originated server is offline.

Plex Sync issues from 1.1.0 onwards?

Obviously Plex's syncing leaves a fair amount to be desired at the best of times but a few of my users are reporting that their synced content is displaying a simple "Something went wrong playing your media" error on anything local to the device after syncing; this has been a problem on various different media since 1.1.0 and persists in 1.1.3 - is anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes?

Server is Ubuntu 15.04 running 1.1.3 and clients reporting issues are all iOS, on various media containers and codecs, transcoded for sync using both Low and Medium profiles.

Thanks as ever.

PMS Version 1.0.0.2261, Plex Web 2.7.0, playlist not showing IE 11

Hallo,

I am running a PMS on Debian 7.11. Recently I upgraded it to PMS version 1.0.0.2261.

Today I noticed a problem with my playlists. On my PC using I.E 11.

I cannot display the playlists by selecting them from the libraries menu on the left nor the dropdown at the top of the screen. The screen goes blank and the orange spinner is showing.

They partially show up on the dash board and I can start playing them but it is not possible to open them and select titles from it.

Plex Web is version 2.7.0.

The playlists are showing on the server itself in iceweasle and on my Samsung TV.

Any hint on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Plex failing to auto-generate episode titles for local media assets

$

0

I'm attempting to import a library of content and it's very important that Plex is able to automatically assign names to each "episode". Manually cranking through each one and updating the tags within the app's interface simply isn't feasible because there are currently 4000+ individual "episodes". There's also the potential for Plex to chuck some of the custom names during subsequent re-scans (which happened to me a few times while cleaning up my music).

The content is education and training series from sites like Lynda.com and Udemy. The most "correct" suggestion I've found for sorting this particular type of content seems to be storing and naming as TV series; sorting by categories (or "type") and using seasons to separate individual courses.

media/
  tv/
    [...]
  learn/
    [category_name1]/
      [...]
    [category_name2]/
      Season 01/
        [...]
      Season 02/
        [category_name2] - s02e01 - [episode_name1].mp4
        [category_name2] - s02e02 - [episode_name2].mp4
        [...]
      Season 03/
        [...]

Categories are used in place of "shows", and episodes are named using the format listed here when including "Optional_Info" (no idea why this is actually documented if the optional_info is "ignored by Plex".... even for local media assets?)

Anyway, after reading through this thread I ended up using kid3 to make sure all metadata has been wiped and then manually include meta for the title only. Additionally, I've gone through the "Plex dance" a few times, moving a handful of seasons to a temporary dir, emptying trash, cleaning bundles, etc.

Ex: /media/learn/Code/Season 09 [Introduction to Python]/Code - s09e11 - The Range Function.mp4 --> meta-title: The Range Function

Beyond providing the title in the filename and in the metadata, I'm not sure how else to communicate to Plex the episode names.

My setup is: Cent OS, 60 gig part, 4 gigs of RAM, 4 virtual cores

have a movie, it's a MKV format about 8 gigs in size. I'm using my visizo with plex app installed for play back. this movie freezes in the same spot, and eventually times out. I have even increased the cpu to 8 virtual cores. same thing, same spot. When i use my web browser the movie plays fine. My transcoder is set to "make my cpu hurt", i have a temp folder setup as well. someone please help. ROku has similar issues, some movies buffer. What log file would tell me what's going on? what am i looking for. I have had the same results with running plex on windows.

Plex Not Workging AGAIN!!!!!!!!

It's always something! A few weeks ago Plex updated the Android app and broke it. They eventually fixed it; but, It never works anymore. Tonight, out of the blue, I'm having the same problem as before when they broke the app. I keep saying I'm cancelling my plex pass but I keep thinking they're going to fix it.

Client no longer finds server without signing in

1) My plex client (running on Sony Bravia Android TV) no longer sees my Plex server (running on Linux Mint 18). I used to be able to check the status of the Plex server using "service --status-all" but it no longer shows up. It does show up as active using "system ctl status plexmediaserver".
2) When I log into the Plex app on the Sony Bravia, I can see the server and my library, but when I attempt to play media, I just get the spinning gold circle indefinitely. The also happened recently after a faulty Android app release (v 4.30) in early August and was subsequently corrected (v 4.31) on August 23rd.
Question: Why can I no longer see the server status using "service --status-all" and is the issue with the app related?
