What agent does everyone use for content rating?

Hi,

So many of my movies & TV have the content rating missing due to the information not being available with the standard plex agents, what does everyone use to get this field auto-populated?

cheers

Plex in Lubuntu 32 bits don't get the poster.

Hi,

I have installed Plexmediaserver (1.1.4.2757-24ffd60) in Lubuntu.
In Lubuntu 64 bits works fine, but in Lubuntu 32 bits I have a problem.

Plex gets all info about film, less the poster.

Any Idea?

P.D.: I apologise for my english.

there was a problem playing this item

I've seen this problem a few times on google with various solutions none of which worked for me.

My setup is as following;

PMS: 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60
Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (#1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3)

Clients:
Plex Web Windows (Chrome) 2.8.1
Plex for LG (NetCast) 2.6.9

I have 247Gb free on the drive PMS is installed on and 412Gb free on the drive the media is stored on, mounted as a separate drive on the same machine.

I've tried changing the Direct Play and Direct Stream settings with no effect as well as pass through of audio.

All my files are stored as mkv and range from 1Gb to 30Gb with Permissions set to 664, I've also tried setting the owner of the file to plex.

Anything else I can try?
Thanks

Updated Plex Server now Videos won't play

So info to start with

Plex Server Version 1.1.4.2757
running on Centos 7. (fully updated)

I have 2 separate issues which might be related

Playing Videos on a local PC, or Android phone I get an error saying a Problem been detected and can't play the video. Videos mostly MKV, but also have AVI and mp4 which all doing the same.

Remote connection, port forwarding setup on Router but since update the server struggles to connect outside of the network occasionally i get a indirect connection.

Priority right now is to sort out the playing, I worry about the network issues afterwards as that might be a ISP, which happens to have happened around same time as the update.

So I did upgrade for 1.1.4 initially and started seeing the problems, so also did a clean install afterwards to see if that had any different but no luck. I not changed permissions on the folders etc. I can see the files in Plex I just can't play them, any suggestions?

Updating PMS on Ubuntu Server?

Hi all,

In looking for the simplest way to upgrade my Plex Server I've tried $ sudo apt get update and $ sudo apt-get upgrade, but PMS is just not upgrading.

My Kernel is:
4.2.0-42-generic

My OS is:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release: 14.04
Codename: trusty

$ sudo apt-get update returns:

W: Failed to fetch http://plex.r.worldssl.net/PlexMediaServer/ubuntu-repo/dists/lucid/InRelease

W: Failed to fetch http://plex.r.worldssl.net/PlexMediaServer/ubuntu-repo/dists/lucid/Release.gpg Could not resolve 'plex.r.worldssl.net'

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

So, seeing the Lucid repo above, I thought I'd be clever and look for the Trusty repository, found this thread here; https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/186136/ubuntu-repository and added this repo, but still no joy.

How can I remove the old Lucid repo?

Is it worth uninstalling and re-installing PMS? If so, what is the best command line method for the uninstall? (I'm still learning Linux)

Should PMS be stopped before trying any of this? - What is the command line way to stop & start PMS?

Thanks, Scott.

Why I cannot see my library in TV ?

Hello,
my PMS scans all my video files (movies, tv show, camera footage) and catalogises them into library correctly (I can see them in web gui and in BubbleUPNP). When I open UPNP/DLNA devices on my LG TV it shows PMS but when I try to open it there is nothing (with text - this folder seems to be empty - in my language).
If I try to open my library in BubleUPNP (android app) I see all my files correctly and can play them - I can play them even on the mentioned TV (if I chose it as renderer in the BubbleUPNP).
The same setup worked before and my TV was albe to browse PMS Library without problem. Only one thing happend - update of my debian server and PMS itself.
There is nothing in logs, no errors, just regular stuff. Am I doing something wrong ? Should I setup something diferrently ?
Thanks for help

Trying to add a Networked Drive to Plex

Hi.

I am a complete newbie to Ubuntu and Plex, which makes me a bit of a basket case. I am relying on the kindness of strangers :)

I have a Ubuntu 16.04 computer that has Plex Media Server installed. As part of the installation process, I attempted to give Plex the location of my iTunes library, my only real present source of movies and TV shows. The iTunes library is on a networked share that shares files between a few household macs and this Ubuntu machine.

The Ubuntu computer shows the drive as mounted in the Files file manager. I can access and open files on the same drive from Ubuntu [and the macs, of course].

But I have not been able to give Plex the location of the networked folder, despite the fact that the drive is mounted. I may be doing something wrong in Plex land or Ubuntu land.

Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Move from Synology to Linux

Hey all

I'm giving my brother my Synology DS216j NAS but keeping my 2x6TB WD Red drives currently installed. I've built a small server using my old 4Ghz AMD quad core PC I had in the spare room sat gathering dust, lol
Its running Ubuntu (latest release) and currently I have 2x4TB WD Red drives (RAID 1 mirror) as my main system drives with Linux installed and Plex. I want to know if I put my 2x6TB WD Red drives in will the system need to format them or will it see all the media, they are currently in Ext4 format and Synology Hybrid RAID with 1 disk fault tolerance in the NAS waiting to be removed. The drives are full so can't transfer the media to my 4TB space and I don't have a spare drive or afford another 6TB right now.

I hope I've made my question clear enough

Sync transcoding only using 1 CPU core, while streaming uses all

hey guys,

I've tried out syncing for the first time to my Nexus 7, and realized that while streaming with the block based encoding uses all my server's CPU cores, when using sync, it's single threaded. Even though I'm syncing 10 episodes of the show, it goes sequentially, single threaded. Is this intentional, or just left like this for ease of implementation? Would make sense to at least start multiple encodes in parallel IMHO, as even with server grade Xeons the single thread performance is nowhere comparable with using all cores, let alone all sockets+all cores.

Cheers,

Peter

Claim a new server fail

Hi everyone,

I bought a VPS few weeks ago and setup different services. Everything was find until I finally setup my plex server on it. The videos were laggy because I didn't take a server with enough power.
So I took a better on with an i5 instead of an Atom.

I re-setup everything and erase my old server.

When I go through the web app, the service told my that there is an unclaimed server. But I cannot do anything to claim and access it.

I look around for a day to find out but I still get stuck.

Any hint of how can I fix this ?

Thanks.

Trouble running PMS on raspberry pi 2 with higher bitrate videos

Hi all,
I have PMS running on raspbian on a raspberry pi 2 and things almost work exactly as I want. I have a couple higher bitrate videos that seem to choke my raspberry pi 2 but I am not sure why. The highest bitrate file I have is 3Mb per second. I am using the 10/100 wired port that goes to a wireless n router. Every time I watch one of these higher bit rate movie my Amazon Fire stick says that my connection is too slow or that the server isn't powerful enough to transcode. Why is it even trying to transcode? Why is 100Mb to wireless n not enough for measly 3Mb?

I recently found kodi and set that up on my fire stick. I connected that to my raspberry pi using samba and those same files that choke plex work great. I like kodi but plex does have some features I like if it would run well.

Can anyone help me figure out why plex chokes on these files? They are x264 just like all my others. Only difference is the bitrate.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

[Kubuntu 16.04.1] Plex Media Server was working fine but randomly stopped - what happened?

I did not upgrade PMS or install any new versions. After going through the mess of configuring PMS to launch as the main user (how it should just be by default but for some reason isn't), and after messing around with some library permissions, I finally got it working.

I dared not touch the finicky beast once it was actually working. Time passes and various other system updates occur and some reboots and now PMS isn't working again. Why? How do I fix it?

PMS on Linux should be this easy:

  1. Install the .deb (or whatever)
  2. Run it or start the service
  3. It just works (configure it in a browser etc)
  4. I shouldn't have to make my username 'plex'
  5. I shouldn't have to mess with creating users or groups
  6. I shouldn't have to edit obscure files that PMS itself doesn't even tell you about
  7. I shouldn't have to do anything else

The whole process is unbelievably unfriendly for how simple it could and should be. On Windows it is this easy.

I was running 1.0.3 and upgraded to 1.1.4 to see if that would fix it. It didn't.

Name match bug

Plex Linux has a bug where it picks the first match in the list even if it isn't the correct name. The same python code works on Windows with the same match list so there is something Windows is doing that the Linux version isn't.

/media/movies/Comedy/Office Space (1999).mkv
/media/movies/Drama/Bob's New Suit (2011).mkv

These are marked as duplicates under Linux and through my testing it is because they both come up when doing a match search. Now how these two come up in a search together is anyone's guess, but Windows somehow gets it right and Linux doesn't.

As you can see by the screenshot both movies come up in the search and Linux just auto picks the first match.

Image may be NSFW.

Chad

Segmentation fault

Hi there,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum post but lately Plex has been acting 'up'.

Every now and then the Plex service would kill itself and require a manual restart.

Today it's actually stopped twice (midway through watching films)

Luckily, I was on the terminal at the time and managed to grab the below

[root@vault ~]# sh: line 1: 20665 Segmentation fault ./'Plex Media Server' > /dev/null 2>&1

System is running CentOS 6.8 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3520 @ 2.67GHz

Does this mean anything, any idea?

Why is my Linux Plex Server so much slower than my Windows Plex Server?

I am trying to migrate my Plex installation from my Windows 8.2 PC to my Linux PC running Linux Mint. For some reason accessing Media on my Linux PC is super slow compared to my Windows PC which feels instant. For example, when I use the app on my Roku/iOS/Android it takes quite a while to load the dashboard for my Linux Plex server. At first I thought it was the internet connection but I think I ruled it out. Both are connected to the same WiFi network, both have the same speed test results and I tried to view the media locally on my Linux Plex server but even when I did that it was still slower than my Windows one. I also rulled out caching. I try to view my TVShows on my Linux Plex server, then I navigate to the home screen then I go back to TVShows and it's just as slow as it was before.

Does anyone know if I did anything wrong during setup or if there's a setting I'm missing somewhere? Or perhaps another explanation?

Unable to Install PMS on Ubuntu Server 16.04 [SOLVED]

Trying to install PMS for the first time on Linux. Been using it in docker on Linux for the past 2 years. Getting the following output when I try to run the install (this is with either the latest Plex Pass version or the DVR Beta).

Plex Not adding any new TV shows

I have Plex Media Server running on Ubuntu 14.04, and running happily for over a year (and have been fairly happy with it too).

But a couple days ago Plex stopped seeing new TV shows. I move the 1st season of "Adam Ruins Everything" into my TV Folder, but Plex only saw eps 15 and 16.

Now today Plex does not seem to see any new TV shows that have been added. I added new seasons of several TV shows and Plex is not listing the media or seeing it.

As to what I have tried:

  • I am 95% sure my permissions are correct. I have not changed them between Plex reading shows and not.
  • I have my name structure correct, and shows are auto name and sorted by Sonarr. "TVShows/SeriesName/SeriesName_Season##/SeriesName - S##E## - EpsName.mkv"
  • The media files play just fine in other media programs (VLC, video stream plugin for chrome, my android phone)
  • I have not made any changes to Plex Server, Ubuntu install, my folder structure or permissions recently.
  • I tried removing all offending TV shows new season, updating my TV library, Optimizing the data base, cleaning bundles, and emptying the trash, then adding one of the shows back, but no go.
  • I double check that there is no odd characters in the files names or folder names.
  • I tried removing the whole folder for one of the TV shows, went through the optimize, cleaning, empty trash, then re-added the season folder back. Plex sees the seasons and media it loaded before, but not the new media.
  • I updated plex to the newest version (1.1.4.2757).
  • Restarted the computer hosting plex.
  • I have tried moving one of the offending TV shows to a new folder, optimize, cleaning, empty trash then adding the new folder as a new library but Plex still only sees the old episodes it was already recognizing but nothing new.
  • Lots and lots of googleing......

At this point I am running out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plex offline - not work

Watch Later - Plex Media Server Not Responding

Hello,
I'm having issues on videos (youtube) sent to "watch later" queue. It works ONLY on the plex admin account. If I send a video to the "watch later" queue for a normal user, if the user tries to play the video (it's correctly added on the queue) I get this error:

"Plex Media Server is not responding".

How to solve?

Thanks!

Simon

Server on Ubuntu and Rasp-Pi not adding movies to library from additional HDD.

My fellow Plexsrians. I Have successfully installed the Server on Ubuntu and Rasp-pi and works perfectly when the movies are installed on the same drive as the OS and Server. However, when I add an additional HDD the OS sees the Movies and can be played, but the Plex Server does not populate the library. Any suggestions? Thanks.
