Adding unRAID shares to PMS on Ubuntu

$

Hi knowledgeable peoples - I really need some help here please before I do something drastic...

My setup is I have PMS running on a new Ubuntu micro-pc, and I have an unRAID NAS setup to store all the media files.

No matter what I try, I cannot get Plex on the Ubuntu to add anything from the unRAID server to form a library.

The shares are there - I can mount them, view them, play the files etc directly within Ubuntu, from the file directory. I put the share path in when trying to create a library, and just.... nothing.

Ubuntu version 16.04, unRAID version 6.2.4, Plex Media Manager version 2.10.10

Can anyone help me???

Thanks

There was a problem saving these settings

I've always had problems with plex not being able to find my server despite forcing it to use port 32400, even with a machine exposed directly onto the internet, even in three different continents on different machines... It always finds a way to not work.

Now, it won't even install. I get to the first configuration page after the upsell screen, and then click next to take the defaults, and it just says "There was a problem saving these settings"

If I just reconnect back to /web/index.html, it goes to the main plex page, but in order to do anything I have to sign in. As soon as I sign in, it starts passing through to app.plex.tv instead, which of course can't see the server, which I can no longer configure since connecting directly to it passes through to app.plex.tv, which can't see the server... You see the dilemma. So I have to uninstall the whole thing and then try again, with the same results.

Logs don't seem to be of much help. Permissions look fine. I'm running plex server 1.1.3.2700 on freshly installed Ubuntu server 16.10, no antivirus, with and without router/firewall.

unable to access media folders on ubuntu

I have a plex server running on xubuntu 16.10 on an acer ac100 server machine. It has a hot swappable hdd called media which mounts under /media/richard/media where richard is my user name. Folder permissions on /media/richard/media are correct. The folders on media are called Plex Movies, Plex TV and Music Videos, which should be suitable. In addition, using both this machine and this setup I have successfully accessed this media before I reinstalled the software to remove an encrypted drive.
Plex can see the drive, but can't see the folders on it. If I manually change the path to /media/richard/media/Plex TV or /media/richard/media/"Plex TV" it still doesn't work. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu 16.04]: Remote capabilities staying alive

$

I've had this issue for quite a long time now. My Plex server will naturally lose its remote access capabilities and they won't return until I visit the settings menu of Plex. I don't do anything to re-establish the remote access, I just click on the settings button, I see the red indicator that the server is not accessible outside of my LAN, and within a second or two it flips to green. I don't even need to visit the remote tab or click its retry button. Originally I had it self-assigning itself a port and using UPnP and this was happening. I've since switched to static IP and a fixed port, which is configured properly in my router, but the issue persists.

I'm not sure how long the remote capabilities remain alive after I visit the settings menu, but I know that it's only a handful of minutes. Naturally I never use my server remotely because I would need to be on my server to get that refresh of the service going after which it would soon timeout regardless.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 (under Mint 18) and the newest version of Plex for pass holders.

Hi guys

I'm having trouble streaming from plex. My media server is on my qnap ts453a nas with 16gb ram. When I Stream on my phone using 4g it works fine but when I try the same thing on my home wifi network I keep getting a message saying my server is not powerfull enough. How and why is this happening? It can't be my server can it?

How to remote control a PMS on Raspberry Pi 3 (Jessie) with a Plex client on iPad or Android phone?

Hello Experts,
Iam running a Plex Media Server on a Raspberry Pi 3 with Jessie OS. I use it for music. The audio output is connected with the hifi system.
How can I manage it with the Plex client on the Ipad to force sound not being streamed to the Ipad but to the Raspberrys audio output.

Many thanks in advance for your tip.

1.2.2 Randomly Stopping on Ubuntu 16.04

I've been using Plex for a bunch of years now and I'm pretty good with Linux. I've never really had any issues and always kept up-to-date with Plex but for some reason this version is giving me a bunch of headaches. It'll just randomly stop working and write nothing to the logs even on verbose! I just went back to 1.1.4 and it's been up and running with no issues for a few hours now. I'm not even sure what to post here to get more information but it'll just randomly stop work. I've had a bunch of people complain that it doesn't work and I've just been doing a "sudo service plexmediaserver restart" and it'll come right back up. Yesterday it just randomly stopped while I was watching a movie. Server itself is up, just plex is not reachable.

I'm not sure what to provide since the logging just stops and I've already downgraded. Anyone having this issue?

Plex doesn't auto update library when using rsync

$

I have my Plex server on an ubuntu box. Previously I had a samba share setup so I could copy files from Windows to Plex server, and as soon as all files were done copying, the appropriate Plex library would refresh itself and show the new files.

I now have a Synology NAS, and that device is what copies files over to the Plex server now.

Here's my rsync command that is executed via bash script on the NAS.

rsync --remove-source-files -av --exclude @eaDir/ --exclude @eaDir "${R_SRC}" "plex@${PLEX_SERVER}:${R_DEST}"

All files are copied correctly, but Plex does not auto refresh any library. I have to manually do it; and I'd rather not do that nor would I like to have it auto refresh on a schedule. I'd like the refresh on change to start working again.

Is it a bug that's been introduced recently? Do I need a specific switch in my rsync command to make it work right? Or something else?

transcoder and PGS subtitles issue

Hi,

I have a dedicated Plex machine which is having trouble transcoding files which have PGS subtitles. The machine has 2 6 core xeon processors and more than enough ram, it has no problem transcoding 8 or more full HD streams.

This issue is this: When i play a video file which has PGS subtitles, the transcoder never goes above 100% cpu usage (The machine has 24 cores, 12 physical and 12 hyperthreaded, so it should in theory be able to reach 2400%). On the client side this results in choppy playback and buffering. All the files i've tested in combination with PGS were x265 files. Playing the very same file without subtitles or with .srt subtitles enabled results in a full blown transcode utilising all the CPU cores, and smooth playback.

I'm running server version 1.2.7.2987, and tested this issue on the webplayer (plex.tv) and on the samsung smart tv app
The server is running on an up to date Centos 7

PlexMediaServer for ARM

I know that plex isn't providing an ARM version but there is someone that is trying to provide an up to date version or a guide to self compile the latest version on ARM device (Rpi2 should be great)

Now with the LG smart tv plex app each time I have the message "This server is not powerful enough to convert video", doesn't matter that I'm in the same network of the PMS.

Installing on Linux: can I create "plex" as the default user?

$

I know that in Linux, Plex runs as the user "plex", which I assume is created when PMS is installed. If I create that user when installing the OS, will it just use that account, throw some error because the account already exists, or just create another (e.g.: "plex0" or "plex1")? I'm planning to use Ubuntu Server 16.04 if it makes any difference.

Plex Media Server on Linux Mint Cinnamon 64-bit also Plex Home Theater or Plex Media Player

So I am a complete newbie @ Linux, I've only used it for a few weeks. I'm trying to get primarily plex media server running on my desktop, but would also like Plex Media player or Plex Home Theater running as well.

I keep seeing various explanations on how to go about the install process and how to set it up.

I thought you just download the .deb file and install it from there. Is this not the right way to do it, or is there a better more accurate way to go about doing this.

And then the only cure is to restore from backup. But then it happens again because a small single core NAS isn't somehow magically going to get faster.

I've rolled back to a known good backup several times today, and every time a rescan kicks off, it all gets corrupted all over.

Plex is becoming increasingly unusuably broken.

Plex duplicates with the exact same path?

Hi,

I'm running PMS v. 1.2.7.2987 on my debian server. I recently got a problem with Plex showing that I have duplicates of shows.
When I go into the episode and click information and check the path I see two fields (like you would with duplicates), but they both show the exact identical path to the same file.

How do I solve this?

Thank you!

Just started up a ubuntu server and have everything I want set up. Then I installed plex as it was the last thing I need yet it blew up on me during the server setup. I hope someone can help.

Quick note: I changed the user and group the server uses during setup so I do not have permission issues usingthe settings below.

sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

plexmediaserver.service code

[Unit]
Description=Plex Media Server for Linux

Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver
Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_PLUGIN_PROCS=6
Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR=/tmp
Environment=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver
Environment=LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
Environment=LANG=en_US.UTF-8
ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c '/usr/bin/test -d "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}" || /bin/mkdir -p "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}"'
ExecStart=/bin/sh -c '/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Server'
Type=simple
User=myuser
Group=mygroup
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=5
StartLimitInterval=60s
StartLimitBurst=3

[Install]

Then I change the permissions on the plex directory to make sure it could run under myuser
sudo chown -R myuser:mygroup /var/lib/plexmediaserver

Best way to use acd_cli + Plex ?

Hello,

First, sorry if my english is not perfect.
I would like to know if there is a best way to use acd_cli to mount a Amazon drive containing approx. 10To of movies/shows which will be readable on my Plex for 15 users ?

Actually, I already use it for some of my libraries but I often loose the acd_cli and I must recreate the nodes.db many times per day because it's damaged. So I created a cron launched every hour :
acd_cli umount -l /opt/Amazon
rm -f /root/.cache/acd_cli/nodes.db
acd_cli sync
acd_cli mount -ao /opt/Amazon

But sometimes nodes.db crash 10min after the cron ...

I think that I missed somehing in my configuration, if you have any idea ?

My server is located in a datacenter :
Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Intel® Xeon® E5 1410 v2
96Go Memory
500Mb/s guarantee

I plan to change the server with a better CPU and less memory, and the lastest Ubuntu but I'm waiting to know if acd_cli will work correctly to choose between SSD (everything stored in Amazon) or SATA/SAS ((everything stored in localy).

I've seen that rclone purpose mount now, is it better than acd_cli ?

Thanks per advance for your suggestions.

Did i do something worng?

I installed PMS today on my Ubuntu 16.** VM and i went to begin to add media to the server which is stored on my NAS. I can add the main folder that has all the content in it then when the PMS does a scan it does not see anything. the server can see the files just fine and I believe all the permissions are set correctly. I switched to run Ubuntu VM because i was getting tired of the windows setup I had running exploding and at least once every 2 months having to rebuild from scratch.. I just need some help making sure i have everything correctly configured.

I have PMS running on Raspberry PI 2!

There is a Synology release which works on rPI2 without a chroot.  However it's seems to becapable of playing media that the drobo/chroot version was unable to.  If you want to try it:

See the guides here: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/145717-i-have-pms-running-on-raspberry-pi-2/?p=887965

and here: http://www.htpcguides.com/install-plex-media-server-on-raspberry-pi-2/

There's also a conversion guide for moving from the chroot version to the native version here:

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/145717-i-have-pms-running-on-raspberry-pi-2/page-17#entry886641

UPDATED Image using the ARMv7 install: http://www.mediafire.com/download/dred4bd078wwe9n/MiniBianPlexArmv7.zip

And it was surprisingly easy!

I followed the bitbucket guide for installing the drobo PMS into a debootstrap chroot on raspbian.

As described here:

https://bitbucket.org/inkubux/cubox-i/wiki/Plex%20Wheezy

As with the Mycloud install, I had to change LC_ALL=C in the chroot plexmediaserver script and install libexpat1 (apt-get install libexpat1) in the chroot.

I'm using a WD MyBook to store my media. So once I had PMS running I created media folders in the chroot and then mounted the mybook folders in the main host. So my main host /etc/fstab looks like this:

# Chroot bind mounts
/home            /chroots/wheezy-armel/home            none bind 0 0
/mnt             /chroots/wheezy-armel/mnt             none bind 0 0
/tmp             /chroots/wheezy-armel/tmp             none bind 0 0
/proc            /chroots/wheezy-armel/proc            proc defaults 0 0
