Netgear R9000 - PLEX - Issues

I recently purchased the R9000. Initially I used a Western Digital My Book Hard Drive. I quickly learned it wasn't compatible as it locked up and I coudnl't write to it anymore. I purchased a Seagate Backup Plus Hub as I was advised it would work great with the R9000.

Here are the issues I am facing: I have around 600 movies and 100 TV Shows along with some home videos. I copied them to the Seagate drive in separate folders: "Movies" "TV Shows" and "Home Movies". I hook the hard drive up and follow the instructions for Plex on the R9000 through the Netgear Genie. Everything is fine at this point. I add the folders in Plex, the media is recognized and begins to download the metadata. This is where the problems start. As the metadata is being uploaded you can hear the hard drive working and after a few minutes it stops and all you see is the spinning wheel that goes on forever. I have left it overnight to see if it's just needs time. In the morning it is still hung up. I go back into Netgear Genie and under the PLEX menu it states "No USB Device found". I reboot the router, go back into PLEX and the media is still there with a fraction of the metadata having been applied. I try to refresh the media and the same thing happens.

Additionally, without having applied the metadata and just accessing my media, I lose connection to Plex. It seems that it randomly fails to recognize that the drive is connected.

I would appreciate any advice you may have.

I just realized I posted this in Linux....trying to delete and start again.

I would like to know if it possible to install the newest Beta Plexpass DVR version on Debian Wheezy.
I do not see a version for this distribution. I am trying to install on "Open Media Vault". I have been very pleased with the setup I have now. But, I now own a HDhomerun Extend. Would be nice.
Thanks in advance.......

I tried a couple of times to set up a plex media server but no luck yet.
For me the error messages dont say anything.
Can anybody point out what the issue here is?

I attached the logs also.

My sertver is not the newest one but it should work:

SRT external subtitles missing for MKV movies

Hi,

I'm suffering a strange problem with PMS, related to external SRT subtitles.

When I add some movies to the library, with external srt subs, the subs are not detected by PMS and movies appear in the library without subs (SUBS: NONE).

The strange thing is that this is only affecting MKV movies. AVI or MP4 movies are fine.

Also if the MKV file has embedded subs they are correctly detected.

On the other hand, TV Shows are working flawlessly, no matter if they are MKV, AVI or MP4. External SRT subs are always working and listed in the library.

I'm running the latest PMS version for Linux (0.9.11.7) on a CentOS 7 VM, running on Hyper-V.

I already tried several workarounds I found in the forum:

  • Checked naming of the files and they are all ok. All the movies and subs files are named the same including the language code in the name like: "Movies\Iron Man\Iron Man.mkv" and "Movies\Iron Man\Iron Man.spa.srt"
  • I stopped PMS, cleared bundles, restarted PMS and refreshed the library.
  • LocalMediaAssets is on top of the agents list.
  • Did a deep refresh of the library
  • Tried to add the year to the movie name
  • Removed the library and added it again
  • Removed a failing movie from the library, refreshed the library, add the movie to the library again.
  • Checked subs file encoding

Nothing worked. Movies are added to the library, but without external subs.

Also the same movies with subs are working fine in VLC and Kodi and other players.

I'm attaching PMS logs to the post in case anyone can take a look at them.

I already reviewed them and I can see that the local media asset agent is detecting the external srt sub files for the movies but somehow they are not added to the movie metadata in the library so they don't appear in the library.

I will appreciate any help with this.

Thanks!

"There was a problem playing this item." for shared users through Plex Relay

Hi everyone,
A few months ago I started using Plex, and I quickly shared my libraries with my family. When I moved back in to my dorm, they started getting the error "There was a problem playing this item." when they tried to watch videos back at home.
The conditions:
Since I am in my dorm, I cannot enable port forwarding and have to use Plex Relay.
When I sign in to my own account from home, the videos play fine.
When I sign in to my sister's account from home, the server connects but the videos don't play, giving the error "There was a problem playing this item."
When I sign in to my sister's account from within the LAN of my PMS, the videos play just fine.

So I think it's got something to do with the combination of Plex Relay and shared libraries? I've just been letting my family use my account for now, but it's annoying because they change my watched/unwatched data. Additionally, I have some shows I'd rather not share with my family, and I've hidden them from Plex in .plexignore but then I can't use Plex to watch those shows either.

Not sure what category to post this in so I put it in PMS- Linux but it has happened with PMS on both Mac and Linux.

Is this Setup ok? Debian8, PS3, AsrockRack C2750D4I, 32GB RAM, Buffering:-(

Hello all,

i have installed plex on an Debian 8. The cpu is an Intel Avoton C2750 Octa-Core Processor SOC on an AsrockRack C2750D4I Mainboard. 32 GB RAM are installed. The plex-server works in a docker-container. When the ps3-client connect via LAN (everywhere Gbit) the client buffering the stream.

What can i do? The local bandwith is great enough to stream without transcoding. I put the transcoding at the server on maximum cpu and in the ps3-client streaming in "Original".

Where is my error at these configuration?

Kind regards, AL

Plex Media Sever loses all media posters

Hello,
I am running Plex Media Server on unRaid 6 through the docker engine. (container created by needo running the latest version of plex)

I have recently came across an issue where ALL my media loses its posters (but keeps metadata)

EDIT: But the strange thing is, it remembers the poster I had select if not the default.

When ever I do a full library "refresh all" the posters start populating again, but after less than 24hrs they are once again gone.

I am not sure how much more information I need to give you guys, but please do ask.

Thanks,
xisplo

Plex Web App can't find server

Hello,

I followed this guide to install Plex on Fedora:
http://bendavis.me/2015/03/29/setup-plex-media-server-on-fedora/

Then I disabled firewalld because for some reason even though I added port 32400/tcp, it still didn't allow connections to the web app. Now I can connect to the webapp but it can't find my server. Why could this be? They should be afaik both running on the same machine. I just did
sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver

I expect that should have started everything.

Resume video in Browser starts at wrong time

If I start a video from the Plex interface in the browser player and leave it paused for a while (approx. 5-10 Minutes) when I go to resume the video it will restart the video at some previous point (weirdly often where I paused it last).

Is this an undocumented feature (that I'd like to turn off) or a bug?

All of my shared users are getting a "There was a problem playing this item" error message when trying to play videos with the webapps (Chrome, Firefox, IE). Vizio TV app (Opera based) also doesn't work. Using a Fire TV works fine.

In the log files I am seeing the following message:

ERROR - TranscodeUniversalRequest: Client attempted to request remote content without permission: 'http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/metadata/26177'

Full log file has been attached.

netgear x10 r9000 -- leave it alone or mess with it?

$

I got the netgear x10 r9000 today, so far so good. I am frustrated without ssh access and having to manage my media through network sharing and the web gui. I also would like to set up a torrent seedbox so i don't have to leave any pc's on all the time. I haven't seen much chatter about this router, thoughts? I don't want to go down the dd-wrt path if it's just going to reduce performance. Usually, I would just try my luck, but that's easier when it's a $35 raspberry pi or a cheap router. This is a bit more of an investment :)

Cannot access first web configuration after installing PMS on Raspberry Pi 2 (Raspbian Jessie Lite)

Today I just installed a fresh vanilla Raspbian Jessie lite (release date 2016-11-25) on a Raspberry 2. I wanted to install Plex Media Server on it so I followed the first guide found here:
https://dev2day.de/typo3/projects/plex-media-server/

Everything went smooth and did not receive any error during any step. However, after rebooting, at the moment of opening the initial web configurator at 10.0.0.6:32400/web, I always get connection refused.

I am sure to know my local ip since I installed transmission-daemon and I can access it by typing 10.0.0.6:9091 on my browser (I assigned a static IP to my raspberry pi 2 in my local network).

This is the log when trying to restart Plex Media Server:
`pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo service plexmediaserver stop

I really don't understand what could be the problem. I am seeking for some help in this forum. Thank you very much in advance.

Plex server thinks there are two copies of a show when there is only one

$

Using the latest Ubuntu version 0.9.12.16, but I did see this in earlier versions. I've noticed in the web interface that all newly downloaded episodes of TV shows have a little "2" in the corner, indicating that Plex thinks there are two distinct versions of the asset. However, when I do a file info in the UI, the two entries it shows have the exact same file path. For instance:

The latest episode of "Sleepy Hollow" give me this in the media info popup in the webUI:

Files

/pub/Media/Video/Television/Sleepy Hollow/Season 03/S03E04 - The Sisters Mills.mkv
/pub/Media/Video/Television/Sleepy Hollow/Season 03/S03E04 - The Sisters Mills.mkv

I only notice it for episodes added in the past week, so this may have started in version 0.9.12.13 or .14 (I think I skipped .13, so that's why I'm not sure about that one).

A rescan of the library did not fix it, but it didn't cause older episodes to get duplicated in the database.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Unable to save settings during first setup

Hello,
I'm trying to install plexmediaserver for the first time on a debian stable box using plex 1.3.0.3059-6277334.
As this is a remote box, I'm aware of the fact, that I need to tunnel my connection to the servers webinterface until I did the first setup.
.. and that is actually where I'm failing. I managed to access the webinterface however, I'm able to fill in a name for the server, but whenever I press next it keeps telling me, that there is an error saving the settings.

I checked the logfiles in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs but couldn't find anything helpful at all.
Of course I ensured, that the user plex as r/w permissions on its home folder (/var/lib/plexmediaserver/).
Anyway, I'm really out of ideas, I hope somebody could give me a helping hand.

Oh and BTW:
I don't want to complain about plex, but who the f$#% had this idea to create directories with spaces within linux? /sigh

Regards,
Steffen

"There was a problem saving these settings" on fresh install on Ubuntu Server

I have just installed Plex Media Server on a fresh headless Ubuntu server. That went well and I am at the initial setup screen. However when I try to submit the first page, I receive the error "There was a problem saving these settings". I assume this is due to permissions needing to be set on a file or folder somewhere, but can't find any information to that effect. I tried changing the permissions of the file /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml, however something keeps setting them back to what they were....?!

Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Plex forgets everything every time I reboot my PC.

Plex forgets everything every time I reboot my PC.

Every time I reboot my PC, my PS3 sees the files but has the "Unavailable" graphic on everything, After hours online looking for a fix, I discovered something that worked! Every reboot, I type in:

sudo gpasswd -a plex plugdev then sudo service plexmediaserver restart

based on a web page that suggested it.

After about 3-5 minutes, I can then watch anything on my PS3. However, I cannot tell what I have watched and what I haven't because it forgets everything. =\

Any easy fix for this?

don't want plex to have permission on other folders

$

0

I'm just beginning with linux and have read how to handle the permissions on linux filesystems, but running into the problem that I can not stop the plex webservice (ran by the plex user) to have access to other folders then my media folders. For example my download folder.

I followed the official installation instruction for Ubuntu. Which gives me a plex user that runs the plex processes. The plex user is member of the following groups:

groups plex

drwxrws---+ 4 downloadclient downloadgrp 4096 nov 27 16:26 Downloads

The I check mij download folder that has the following owner, group and modes enabled:

Ls-l

drwxrws---+ 4 downloadclient downloadgrp 4096 nov 27 16:26 Downloads

Then I open the plex webgui from another computer and notice that the gui still has access to the download folder.

When I remove the mode settings for the group (so that the group does not have any permissions) I notice the plexwebgui can not access this directory.

What do i need to do to stop plex from accessing directories when its neither owner nor a groupmember of that folder and other users don't have permissions?
