Plex does not start after installation on Ubuntu 16.04

First: Sorry for my bad english.

I wanted to install the Plex media server on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04. It is the server version without GUI.

What have I done:

wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.5.6.3790-4613ce077/plexmediaserver_1.5.6.3790-4613ce077_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.5.6.3790-4613ce077_amd64.deb
sudo reboot
sudo mkdir /var/lib/plexmediaserver
sudo chown -R plex:plex /var/lib/plexmediaserver
sudo systemctl enable plexmediaserver.service
sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver.service

Then I had to realize that Plex does not start, which I found as followed:

root@plex:/# sudo netstat -tulpn

Access to local server not possible after adding second user

Hi,

i became finally a PlexPass Member today.
I am using Plex for quite a while and i am so happy with it that i finally subscribed for a Lifetime Subscription.

I am running the Server on a CentOS Linux Server
Access was configured to be without Authorization for local hosts.
My Plex Server is connected to my Plex account.

After I added a second user and set the Plex App pin i am not able to login anymore locally to configure my server.
I still can access via browser outside of my home the content using my Plex account.

When I try to access my local server using this URL http://localhost:32400/web/index.html#!/dashboard I am prompted to login with my PlexAccount.

Once I enter my details i get the following message:
- The username or password is incorrect. Repeated attempts may temporarily disable sign in.

I also tried to access plex.tv from my server directly which results in the same message as above.

But the provided credentials are fine because I can login to plex.tv (as you can see i am writing from my account) if i am not doing it from my server.

I have the feeling that i have a setting in place which prevents me now to access my server (as admin).

I really hope you can help me out...

Thanks a lot.

Updating to 1.6.1.3722 on Ubuntu 15.04 breaks super user privileges?

Hi folks,

The other day I noticed I couldn't sudo from the 1 user account I created on my Ubuntu instance. Unable to determine why I restored to a previous image of my server that had no updates or channels added. This instance was running Plex media server 1.5.2. I found that I could sudo from my "media" account without issues.

I performed the installation of plexmediaserver_1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf_amd64.deb per usual. Everything seemed normal, until I rebooted.

Upon reboot I could still login without issues, but now when I try to sudo anything (even rebooting) it says the media user isn't in the sudoers file:

This is a very basic installation of Ubuntu with no additional applications installed other than what's required during the installation.

I'm unable to determine what changed during the installation of the package and it certainly has never happened before. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated, otherwise I may end up building a non-Ubuntu server and see if the issue persists.

Thanks!

Really simple PMS / Raspberry Pi Question

I apologize in advance because I'm sure it's been answered before--but the most relevant thread was already 82 pages long and I can't read through 82 pages (some of which may no longer be current).

Does the Linux for Raspberry version of PMS include DVR functionality?

(And I'm cheating now, second simple question) Is the Pi 3 powerful enough to manage recording (without transcoding) as well as serving up media?

I'm wanting to get PMS off my laptop. :)

Thanks.

Editing second season watched status also changes the first one

Hey guys, I've an issue with a TV show on my Plex server right now.
It's pretty hard to describe the issue I guess it's better to just show you guys
https://gfycat.com/ArtisticShrillDuiker

As you can see in this gifvideo, when I change the watched status of episode 17 in the second season, it also changes the watched status of the episode 17 in the first season.
It's a weird issue and only effects this series.

Also this issue happens on Plex for Android, Plex Media Player and Plex Web, so I guess it probably is an issue with the Plex server itself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Force public IP behind dual Internet connection

$

Hello everyone,

I have 2 Internet connections from 2 different ISPs with 2 real IPs. As you can imagine, the primary is the fast and the secondary a slower that serves as backup. All under a Cisco RV320 router working in load balance mode giving 70% priority to the fast ISP. Opening a port for Plex, opens in both IPs. I add the preferred IP to Settings/Server/Network/Custom server access URLs as http://200.100.200.100 (example). After reboot I see on Remote Access that IP as Public one. However, at some random point the IP change to the one for the slower connection.

The only way I find to force Plex use the fast IP is be reboot the server (Debian). This is quite annoying. Is there an other better way?

Thank you...

Optimized Video Files Missing / Discrepancy

All,
I did some searching and did not see any related answers to this. I have been using the "Optimize" option to created optimized versions of my video library. The PLEX Web says that 50 videos have completed optimization. When I navigate to the actual "Plex Versions" folder on my server there are only 24 video files. I have all the videos stored in the same location and all of the optimizations being stored in the same location. Where are the other files? Will the Media Optimizer skip a file if it is already in an optimal video format? Thanks in advance for the education!

Plex Wont Read Folders/Files on Mounted Drive in Linux Mint

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me get to the bottom of this. I have read through the Linux Permissions Guide and it did not help solve the problem.

I am very new to linux so that is likely partially to blame, but after spending 12 hours on this, I can't figure it out on my own.

When I attempt to add a library, Plex will see my mounted drives, but no folders beyond that. If I manually try to add a folder by typing it in, it does nothing. It will see folders on the root drive, but I've even tried adding a Media folder on the root drive and still nothing. I suspect there is something very basic wrong.

I have tried and set permissions to user Plex for the Media folder on the mounted drive, but it still can't see it.

Any ideas? Sorry If I'm doing this wrong, this is my first time posting.

I'm running Plexmediaserver 1.5.6.3790 unter Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS.

Now i get an "Authentication ist disabled" in my Logfiles.
Even if I make a request from outside my LAN.
So my Media was open to the whole Internet,

I've set up Users with PIN.
I've set "List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" to nothing or to 127.0.0.1.

But nothing works.
There is always "Authentication ist disabled" in my Logfiles.

Any ideas?

Thanks Nicolas.

Plex CPU 100% - Overheat & Shutdown

$

Hi Everyone,

I've had my plex server up and running on an i5 laptop running mint and it's been great, however.....

A few days ago I noticed my laptop had shut itself down. I rebooted and everything was fine, then again I noticed the laptop had shutdown again. Then it shutdown during playback and I started digging.

In essence when I start a film (any film) on my nexus 9 or xbox one my CPU cycles up to 100% across the cores, the fan goes flat out, the temp rises until it hits 105 degress then shuts down. This only takes a few seconds. If I play the same film through my chrome browser it ramps up to 70% then creeps down to around 50% and runs fine.

I changed my transcoder settings from automatic to prefer speed and it's not made any difference.

Any ideas?

ps latest linux mint version of plex installed, all apps up to date. I've vacuumed out my vents to make sure they are clear.

Ubuntu 14.04.1 Kernel Crash

$

Running PMS on Ubuntu 14.04 inside a Hyper-V machine, running on Windows 8.1

The 8.1 machine is an i7-4770k with 8gb ram

I dedicated 2 cpus and 2gb ram to the Ubuntu machine. I never see it go over ~1200mb ram required... so I don't think that is the issue, but then again, I don't know.

I have 2 windows mounted hard drives from another physical machine.

1 has movies and the other has tv shows and a few new movies.

At first startup, everything works great. Then after a while, anything I try to access on the 1 drive with movies, will not load on Plex and eventually cause a kernel crash in Linux.

I just get the spinning wheel, and a server not available message.

But if I go back, anything on the other drive still works and streams fine.

The message I get is;

INFO: task Plex Media Serv:1622 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

Not tainted 3.13.0-45-generic #74-Ubuntu

"echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs' disables this message.

I checked my drives for errors and they all report good.

I am hard wired into everything. I was wireless bridged at first but moved them together to see if that solved the issue.

Any ideas?

Plex Public Server IPs?

Is there someone who knows what Server IPs are that are being used by Plex to setup a stream with my NAS by knocking on my Router on Port 32400? I want to narrow down the amount of external parties that are trying to break into my Router by attacking this Port. :-)

Plex on Raspberry Pi 3 not working without a reboot

Hi everyone.

I have now tried to reinstall my Raspberry Pi 3 5 times as my plex media server using Raspbian. Every time I want to use plex from any application I have to reboot the RPi first. Then it can go on for hours, but if I shut down the stream and want to continue some time after, it doesn't work until I reboot the RPi once more. Anyone having any idea why?
I used the following guide for installing PMS on the RPi:
https://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi_projects/blog/2016/03/11/a-more-powerful-plex-media-server-using-raspberry-pi-3
I am not the experienced with Linux based systems, so please bear with me :-)

Ripped Blu-Ray Titles reverting back to Ripped titles

Hello all,

When I rip one of my Blu-Rays, matching doesn't seem to work. I have to manually change the titles. However, after some time, the title seems to revert back to the ripped titles. What is happening? How do I fix this?

I run Plex in unRAID using a docker container.

Thanks!
