Endless trouble getting Plex to work...

$

Hi, I am new to media servers, 4 hours and counting, I consider myself pretty resilient and stubborn, but being new to Linux and Plex I am stumped. Downloaded the program and installed it, set up the Plex free account, got my 120 movies in a nice folder labelled "Movies", but cannot seem to get the Plex web page to make me a library. It says "there is no content" or something like that, and I cannot drill down past the same of the drive to other folders. Tried:
1 Rebooting
2 Setting permissions to read (they flash right back to a "dash" symbol)
3 Surfed web for clues (saw one about me not really being open in Plex...say what?)
Many sites offer reams of Terminal fortran code to follow...hmm, I am still getting use to the idea of this black box...)
Does anyone have any concrete, step-by-step instructions to help me. Just transferred over from Win 7, using belly breathing to not get frustrated. Thanks.

After upgrading PMS from 1.5.3 to the latest version stops transcoding when watching the video.

Hello. I have PMS installed on Ubuntu 15.10 Server. The problem is that on the latest update stops the playback of video files. I suspect that it stops transcoding. The last working version which I have to return: 1.5.3.3580-4b377d295_i386. All subsequent versions contain this bug. I tried to work with update versions: 1.5.5.3634-995f1dead_i386, 1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf_i386, 1.7.0.3840-45a6a85f4_i386 navseh the same thing happens when watching a film suddenly the playback hangs and weighs until you start the movie again again or change the transcoding settings on the other. Maybe someone faced similar problem? I can try to fix it? Settings transcoding I have tried to change it didn't help. In the logs I tried to look the errors and nothing suspicious was found. Can post here part of the log file for you to help me? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English.

Ubuntu 14.04 - recent gcc-6-base and libgfortran3 update breaks plexmediaserver

$

Using PMS version 1.5.6.3790 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Everything was fine until a recent update installed the following updated packages:

gcc-6-base 6.3.0-18ubuntu2~14.04
libgfortran3 6.3.0-18ubuntu2~14.04

After I restarted the machine (Intel NUC) the plexmediaserver process would not start:
init plexmediaserver main process terminated with status 1 kernel respawning

Nothing in the PMS logs or the crash logs. The PMS process dies immediately and tries to restart in a loop.

I had reverted back to the previous versions and restart the machine to get PMS running again:
gcc-6-base_6.2.0-3ubuntu11~14.04_amd64.deb
libgfortran3_6.2.0-3ubuntu11~14.04_amd64.deb

For now I have marked the two packages on hold, so they don't get updated. I hope the issue will be addressed soon.

Losing connection after some minutes of streaming

Hi,

I encounter problems with my Plex.

It is version 1.5.6.3790 running in the docker container provided by linuxserver.io.

After some minutes (10-20) of playback I lose connection to my server. It doesn't matter if I stream directly in my LAN or over plex.tv.

This is what my log looks like after such a connection loss:

Any ideas what is wrong here?

Movie titles not localized correctly

Hello everybody,

I have recently re-installed pms on my ubuntu 14.04 server, but when I added the "Movies" library, I noticed that most titles are in English instead of Italian, as I would like. Weird thing is that every other info (plot, actors, eccetera) are correctly displayed in Italian.

My Freebase Agent is configured with "Localized Titles" enabled;

The Movie Database agent is configured with "Prefer Artwork based on selection language" enabled and Country set to Italy.

The Library is set to be in Italian.

How can I fix this problem? Any idea?

Thanks a lot,

M.

Hello,

Plex metadata agent can't retrieve infos for a particular french movie I have. Here is the imdb ID : tt5077538 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5077538/).

Every time I try to refresh metadatas, it just hangs for a couple minutes and no info get ever populated. I took a look at logs, here's what I found :

PMS 1.7.1.3856 - Where have the device profiles gone?

$

I am trying to find the device profiles in PMS 1.7.1.3856 on Linux Mint 18.1. For the life fo me I cannot find them. I have spent days looking and it'd driving me crazy.

Everywhere i have looked/read above device profiles say they shiould be in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Resources/Profiles. But the issue is that the Resources folder doesn't exist in this location.

I foudn this locaion, "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/Services.bundle/Contents/Resources" but its empty.

Can anyone shed some light on where device/client profiles are kept now?

I have an ec2 instance set up on aws running 16.04.2 and PLEX was running perfectly for the 40 videos I put up originally. Now that I am adding a new video, plex indexes it and everything looks good to go. But then when I go to play the video, I get this error every time. The video was recorded as a mov using photobooth on a mac and then transcoded to mp4 using ffmpeg 3.3.1. Any help parsing the logs would be great.

Thanks

Plex not downloading metadata anymore (both TV shown and movies)

$

Hi all,

For the last few weeks, my Plex Media Server doesn't download metadata from IMDB, TVDB or any other source anymore.

I have looked at the logs and there are a lot of errors, but I can't make anything out of it.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that I installed OpenVPN Server a couple of weeks back, but even when I disable OpenVPN, the problems don't disappear.

It also seems to keep new episodes from appearing on Deck or subtitles showing up.

I have included the logfiles, so if someone knows the answer I would very thankful!

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

/etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf got corrupted on upgrade somehow

$

The parameters for user and group got screwy, they looked like this:
User=
new_plex_username
plex
Group=
new_plex_group
plex

This caused the postinst script inside the install deb file, to not find any username when grepping override.conf.

I had to manually edit this file back to normal. I had set a custom user (that wasn't even in override.conf it seems) in /etc/defaults/plexmediaserver at some point. That may be related.

Plex Media Server Repo for Debian

Hi.
We have decided to lock the other Debian thread and start a new one so I can edit the first post since Origin is no longer and has not been maintaing this package for a while.

All credits goes to Tobias and the other at Plex for PMS and the init script for Debian were made by Origin. I have just taken all there work and efforts and repacked it for Debian since the ubuntu package is not compatible since the change to upstart.

Down here is the instructions for installing PMS from my repo. This packages is for now compatible with Debian Squeeze , Wheezy and OpenMediaVault 0.3 , 0.4

First Time install

sudo apt-get install curl

If you are running Squeeze,Wheezy or Jessie with SYSVINIT
echo "deb http://shell.ninthgate.se/packages/debian wheezy main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list

If you are using Jessie with systemd then use the Ubuntu package from plex and you will get their repo.

sudo curl http://shell.ninthgate.se/packages/shell.ninthgate.se.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plexmediaserver

Upgrading

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

The init script Original by Origin with a minor modification by me

My Library is empty on a NUC with Librelec PMS installed as addon.

My library is empty after scanning.

I have a NUC running LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-8.0.1.tar.
My goal is to run PMS on the NUC wich is primarily used as a Kodi player
I have installed service.multimedia.plexmediaserver-1.2.1.zip. as a Kodi addon on the NUC
I can acess PMS on my nuc (using my Laptop).
I open PMS on the NUC and try to add my movies folder on my nas to the plex library on the nuc.
I add the folder: \\DISKSTATION\films
Scanning starts and ends immediately. The Library is empty.

The log says:
12:37 AM Library scan complete: Extra information may still be downloading from the Internet
12:37 AM Scanning the "Movies" section

I use a plex pass. I have no problem to scan the same folder from the same nuc using Kodi.

My media folders are on a Synology NAS. I can add them from a plex server on my Win10 notebook under \DISKSTATION\films with no problems.
When I try to add the same folder on my "NUC PMS", the library remains empty.
What is missing, please? Thank you.

Not Updating Watched Shows

I am running the latest plex server on a Debian 8 machine. I've noticed that within the past couple months, when I log into the webUI of my plex server, it does not update shows as being watched. On the device itself (Roku or Amazon Fire Stick) it does. Why would it not update on the server? I find it annoying to manually have to select the shows as watched. Has anyone else had this happen?
