Need to install Plex on my Zyxel NAS

The NAS Zyxel doesn't appear on the list of preferred servers. Is there a way to install Plex that a "normal" consumer can follow?
And why doesn't Plex provide for an easy procedure? Any help is highly appreciated.

An update is available but then NO Use hardware acceleration when available (Experimental)

Hi just got the life time plex pass then I could see the "Use hardware acceleration when available (Experimental)" It works super on my intel(R) Core(TM) m5-6y57 CPU @ 1.10GHz, 4 cores. With Ubuntu Linux 16.04.2 on it. A Intel Compute Stick CS525 Computer with Intel core m5 vPro.

Used htop and can play a 4K video now super good with the 4 cores just going about 1/4 way. Before could just barley play a 1080 and all 4 cores were about 100%

So a Big thank you.

Have all so a Up2 (Up Squared) board with Apollo Lake Intel(R) Pentium N4200 Quad core up to 2.5 GHz and the hardware acceleration works super on that too.

But they both say have a update. If I install the plexmediaserver_1.7.5.4035-313f93718_amd64.deb I don't get the hardware acceleration. But the plexmediaserver_1.6.0.3720-d82f85387_amd64.deb does. But then it says "An update is available" I guess just can't upgrade it if I want the hardware acceleration.

Is that right?

Unable to make remote access working

Hi,

I have to bother you guys once more. I am not able to make the remote access working in Plex Media Server. It goes green and then turns red.

My iptables output is attached (please don't use to get me :-) )

Also my ufw rules are in the attached document.

The error screenshot is also attached.

Any help is appreciated.

Subtitles not being detected

My files are called:

Kong - Skull Island (2017).eng.srt
Kong - Skull Island (2017).mkv

I have tried restarting the server and refreshing the library countless times but it's not working. I have this issue with another movie too that has embedded subtitles and doesn't detect my extra subtitles file.

Any ideas?

Plex does not detech library changes automatically for NFS mounts

Whenever I make changes to my Libraries stored in NAS which is mounted to Linux (NFS mount), it doesn't automatically update when I make changes or add new shows to the library, but have to manually triggering scans whenever i make change. I add movies and make changes through the NAS itself or through my laptop.

Anyone can advise how to possible fix this to automatically watch for changes?

Background: I previously hosted Plex directly on my Synology NAS which updates the libraries automatically whenever there are changes or Plex automatically picked it up. But because the NAS isn't powerful enough I migrated Plex to a more powerful Linux machine and then mount my movie libraries via NFS.

Trouble running PLEX on Raspberry Pi 3

I have had PMS on RPi3 set up for quite a while with no problems. After returning from a long trip, when I try to connect through a web browser it appears that the server is not allowing the connection. When trying to access via the Android App my server is offline.

When I enter

sudo service plexmediaserver status

I get

I have two questions:

  1. Should I just consider installing Rasplex?
  2. What might I do to troubleshoot this issue?

Plex Windows App not closed and performance issue

I encountered several issues when playing a video on Windows 10 App.

  1. There is a weird issue where the audio of one of my UHD 4K with AAC5.1 movies get out of sync at exactly the same time everytime I played it. It is a replicable behavior. I used to run this video on my Synology NAS DS916 and I assumed the problem was that the NAS wasn't powerful enough. Now I have migrated Plex to another machine with i7 6770HQ (Passmark of 9684) and this problem remains exactly the same where audio is out of sync at exactly the same time position.
  2. CPU Spiked to 100% throughout the 5 minutes I was playing the show. I know transcoding is cpu intensive but is this normal? Previously I tried playing some 1080p Videos also with DTS and the CPU was hovering about 5%-10%
  3. After stopping and closing the Windows App, and after 5 minutes Plex is still transcoding and using 100% CPU. I had to go to Plex settings to stop the video. And after clicking on stop nothing happen, it took about another 5 minutes for the transcoding stop.

Edit: correction, it is AAC5.1 not DTS

Transcoder segmentation fault (reproducable)

Hi,

I keep getting transcoder segmentation fault when trying to view some webm files. Here's the interesting part of the log file:

Cannot optimize films more than once

This is doing my head in: I have been searching and trying for days. Please help!

I have optimized some films for mobile incorrectly, not realising I needed to have the sub-titles selected to get them burned into the resultant mp4 file. I have deleted the optimized files and their directories and have also deleted the optimized versions in PMS. However, when I queue them back up PMS either thinks they have already been optimized for mobile, and tells me so, or it politely tries and thinks it has in a matter of seconds (and doesn't). Are there flags set somewhere that I'm not seeing? I don't want to delete the films and rip them again because, in many instances, I no longer have the original. Does anyone know what I need to do?

Moving BIF media index files to another location?

Hello. I'd like to know if there is a way to relocate media index (.BIF) files from Plex's application directory to a custom path somewhere else.

I'm currently indexing my entire library and the total number of .BIF files Plex has generated has topped 4GB thus far... Considering how many items have been indexed, I'm guessing I'll eventually have about ~30GB worth of BIFs.

The default directory containing these media index files ( /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost ) is located on my file server's 16GB root drive. Obviously, I'm about to run out of space and really quick -- so I'm hoping there's a way to do this.

I'm running PMS 0.9.8.4 on Ubuntu 12.04. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is Plex for Ubuntu/Debian broken or is it just me?

I'm getting this error over and over again with both Ubuntu 16.04 and Debian 9. I started to believe that Plex has broken without the people behind it even knowing it.

This is the error that I get when I install Plex both from the repo and from the .deb

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Do some testing guys before releasing to the public. Used to install fine about a month ago.

Enable PMS to follow symbolic links

Hi.

I'm running my PMS on the linuxserver.io docker container under Unraid and I've got a number of items I wish to appear in both my "TV Shows" library, and my "Kids TV" library.
Hard links aren't an option, but symbolic links (ln -s -d /mnt/user/tv/*** /mnt/user/kids/***) aren't parsed at all by Plex. Why is this, and can this be worked around/changed so it does work?

[Help] Question regarding transcoding and Firefox - Insane CPU load

Hi there everyone.

I have a weird "issue" with my server. Or with my clients, I suppose. Specfically the ones using Firefox to access the Plex Web servers. The Plex-transcoder goes totally bananas, and won't stop transcoding the media, until it has reached a 100% in transcoding.

I have observed this in PlexPy, where users using Firefox have transcoded 100% of their media, even though the media barely has started. Here's a few examples: Example 1 - Example 2

The problem with that, is my CPU load is going absolutely crazy, with all my cores getting maxed out, until the transcoder has reached transcoding 100% of the media.

My transcoding settings can be seen > Here! <. These settings have held up to 8 simultaneously transcoding sessions going without any issues - with the users using Chrome/Chromium. No issues at the clients' end, or at the servers end. Buuut then there's 1-2 users using Firefox, and it spikes the CPU for way too long, making the PMS crash after a short while.

I've obviously done the easiest thing: Asking them to stop using Firefox, and using a different client. That has obviously worked, but lets say - hypothetically - they share their user, and forget to tell the next person that they can't use Firefox, and the same thing happens again (e.g. server crash / insane CPU load)?

I don't really want to limit the amount of concurrent streams acceptable, since it runs perfectly and without issues with users using Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome or SRWare Iron. I've tried changing the transcoding sessions to default, just to check, but to no avail. Firefox seems to require that transcoding-session to get completed, instead of transcoding as the media plays.

My CPU is an Intel Core i7-6700, and with 32GB RAM.. Running with Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.

RPi: Plex Server running, but cannot access it

I just installed Plex on my raspberry pi. I have been trying to access it through the web browser. using this address http://192.168.1.21:32400/web. The IP address being the address of my rasp pi. I am using the latest Jessie distro. I tried several thing with no luck

  1. pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo service plexmediaserver start
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo service plexmediaserver status

    Process: 367 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

Nov 05 19:29:38 raspberrypi systemd[1]: Starting LSB: Plex Media Server...

    Nov 05 19:29:39 raspberrypi su[390]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened f...0)
    Nov 05 19:29:39 raspberrypi su[390]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed f...pi
Nov 05 19:29:40 raspberrypi plexmediaserver[367]: Starting Plex Media Server:...
Nov 05 19:29:40 raspberrypi systemd[1]: Started LSB: Plex Media Server.
Nov 05 19:41:42 raspberrypi systemd[1]: Started LSB: Plex Media Server.
Hint: Some lines were ellipsized, use -l to show in full.

I tried to see if the plex is using the port.
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo netstat -lntp | grep -i plex
pi@raspberrypi:~ $

netstat returned nothing. I assume that plex is not using any ports.

I also tried this from my research online:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo bash /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/start.sh
bash: /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/start.sh: No such file or directory
pi@raspberrypi:~ $

Not sure what that means or how to fix it.

I am not a linux guru. I am a super novice user so I am not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any suggestions on how to get the Plex service to use the port? Or how to get it to work right?

Why is my plex media server web interface not working?

Hello all fellow Plex fans,

I recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu server 64bit 16.04 LTS and downloaded and installed plex media server.

The problem is that I can't seem to get the web interface to come up on my windows 8.1 64bit computer web browser... I'm not getting any errors or anything, it just goes to a Bing search page. I typed in "192.168.0.8:32400/web" and nothing happened.

I have pinged the server and pinged google from the server and that was successful so I know the connection is good.

I have been following steps in YouTube videos and still it does not work. I don't know if i'm missing some crucial piece to get it working?

I choose to run Linux server because of its low overhead vs. Windows and its way less buggy than Windows. Also its free software.

Please help me solve this.
