I've encountered a weird issue. After a deep analysis of my movie library, about 2/3 of my movie thumbnails and metadata is successfully loaded and 1/3 are not. (I just reinstalled plex on a different server, where the thumbnails and metadata used to load for every movie I had). Even after deleting the library and adding it again, the same movies fail to load thumbnails and metadata.

A request such as this succeeds and renders the image:

I'm not really seeing anything that stands out in the logs, either. How can I debug further?

I have one Plex server running on a Mac Mini (static IP) with manual port forwarding and it is accessible from outside the network with no problems.

I added a new second Plex server on Ubuntu 16.04. Adding media worked fine. I set up the Ubuntu (static IP) with a different port forward assignment. Rebooted and ran ifconfig to verify the IP address (same as that I set up static). I also edited the Network (wired) connection to set IPV4 as fixed to the same as set in my router, adding in the netmask and gateway addresses.

However, the 2nd Plex server it is not accessible outside of the network. When I enable remote access and choose manual port forwarding using the port forward I assigned in my router, the Server mapping shows the public IP and port I set, being forwarded to the internal port of the first Plex server. I've rebooted the Ubuntu computer a couple of times.; removed/ changed and re-added the port forward.

Ideas?

so new to linux wanted a change since windows always seem to be bogging me down.. i installed plex but in looking how to get plex to see my usb drives i rebooted and now i cant get the server to come up.. not sure what to do i have tried different installs and nothing works. i have uninstalled and reinstalled. im at a loss on where to go from here since im not well versed in linux. any help would be apperciated.

Since I took this update I find several times a day that I cannot get to my server from outside my network. When I check from inside the network the Remote Access tab says Not accessible from outside your network. As soon as I click Retry it connects, and things start working again. until the next time it fails. Logs are included. I have other apps that I can access remotely from outside and none of them are dropping only Plex remote access. I intentionally left it in its disconnected state when I grabbed the logs.

I am trying to move my entire PMS setup from a Mac Mini to a new Ubuntu server. I have managed to install PMS on Ubuntu and moved all metadata, plugins etc. But the settings I can't seem to move.
I really don't want to manually set shows as watched/unwatched...

Anybody know a way of doing it?

I'm trying to create a Linux Plex server on a new Dell T30. I'm able to browse the files on a 5tb internal hard drive but when trying to create a library in Plex, it sees the Hard Drive but there is no access to the drive contents. I right clicked on the Hard Drive and set the permissions to 'Create and Delete' for everything including the 'enclosed' files. I am new to Linux and only need it to get the Plex server up and running.

I am in need of help granting access to my video directory so plex can read the contents. I've got all of my videos stored in
/home/zach/Videos

And I used that target in the Plex web interface, however it doesn't see any of the videos in there.

Is there an easy way to grant read access to this folder for all users? (or something like that, I'm new to linux)

I have videos in 3 diff drive and in each drive are subfolders for this example ill say, one folder with family videos and folder of friend videos. each drive is set up just pretty much the same. Ubuntu is installed on a fourth drive(ssd). I am unable to add the folders into the plex directory

Plex has been working great for years, however just had an Ubuntu update (Ubuntu 16.04.2), latest update took me to kernel 4.10.0-27.
Also had an update to Plex (to 1.7.6.4058).

When I rebooted my server (for the Kernel update) Plex is not available (no errors displayed and process is running according to ps -ef). Have started Plex with the old version of Plex as well as using the old kernel with same results.

I am running a local NAS with Linux (as my Plex server is running on Linux, too). Plex ist not recognizing these NAS-based remote folders and files - neither on a direct way, nor via symbolic links. Can this be solved without having to buy a Plex-capable NAS instead?

This was a clean build of 16.04 LTS in Dev 2016 with Plex Media Server 1.2.7 installed in GUI (Ubuntu Software) then manually updated when it reminds me I'm out of date.

I tried 1.7.5 via GUI, it won't install and Ubuntu Software suggests the previous reolease which rolls back and installs fine. I tried 1.7.6 via command line today as had more to see why its failing after making sure everything else is up to date. Log below where its complaining about 'user' not exising.

I'm completely lost when it comes to adding new movies to an existing library. Currently I have Plex Server running on a Raspberry Pi 2 and a memory stick (new hdd on the way) mounted to /mnt/library. But I can't do anything with this folder to add new content, permission denied even though it has full rights. Unless I'm missing something I can't see any method to add content through the Plex web portal, unless it's to add a whole new folder.

I'm probably being daft but I can't see anything online other than adding whole new libraries. Any help would be appreciated!

My local Plex Media Server running on Arch Linux appears in all of my local devices as a remote server. My local devices are two Raspberry Pi's running RasPlex, and various wired and wifi computers running the web client. In the web client, my local library shows as "remote" instead of "nearby":

and on the RasPlex devices I have to set the "remote" bandwidth to "Direct Play" or they request transcoding.

I've read through this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/219522/local-plex-server-showing-as-remote and double-checked to make sure that plex.direct DNS lookups are working properly. DNS rebinding doesn't apply to me because I have a "real" home network address (199.85.99.0); I'm not using RFC1918 space. I wonder if that's the problem? Do the clients check for "device on the same subnet" or are they actually checking for RFC1918 addresses?

I've configured Plex Media Server to treat my entire network as "local" using "199.85.99.0/255.255.255.0" but that hasn't helped.

I'm not sure where to go from here - any assistance would be appreciated!

I couldn't get a video to play on the newest version of plexmediaserver (1.7.6.4058). I was able to reenable support by rolling back to an earlier version (1.6.1.3722)if you can't fix it can you at least give or tell me the latest stable version where this feature still exists? I am trying to play to a roku 3 and the video is in 1080P

I had my PMS installed on windows server 2008 and then as updates not supported any more I toke the chance to move to linux and installed Ubuntu server 16.4.

I will explain and put links that helped me getting my PMS up and working, And i'm glad to help if you have any questions.

**Note: ** PMS is in a local network LAN and I stream the original with no encoding process so not to exhaust the CPU as it's very low specifications.
