Can't Claim Media Server - Ubuntu 16.04

$

Hi,

I have just recently installed plex media server ver:1.11.3.4803 on a headless ubuntu 16.04 install on my local network. I can confirm that plex:plex has permissions of the /var/lib/plexmediaserver path set to 0755 and also has ownership of the preferences.xml file 0600. I have tried deleting the preferences file and restarting plex.

At the setup wizard from my web browser I it won't go past the first step of naming the server but if I close the browser and re-open the browser the server is found with the name I created Media-Server I can setup libraries but I can not claim the server. I have tried signing out and signing back in from the top right corner and signing in from the claim media server in the general settings.

I'm not sure what the next step is.

Remote server, claim server not working after latest update

Over the weekend i have updated my plex server to the latest updated 1.10.something... only now i have a couple of issues. Since the update i have no remote access and the "Claim server" option cant make its mind up.
Locally the server shows as attached to my account and not remotely accessible, when i go into my plex online account i select the server and it still says "Claim server" but i cant!
Remote is also broken i changed the internal port and firewall rules, it shows green for half a second then drops again.
All in all this update broke more than it fixed anyone got any ideas on this?

I have plex media server on both sides (Linux/Windows) and I want them to use the same media library but can't seem to add media from a different partition. Windows by default can not see Linux file systems (ext4). I moved my library over to a NTFS partition. Here is where I run into a problem. The Web Interface of Plex Media Server can't see anything outside of the partition its installed on, is there a way for me to do this?

After the update to 1.11.3, i've noticed some hanging in PLEX. I can't figure out what is triggering it yet. In the logs, I show:

Feb 23, 2018 10:54:51.314 [0x7ff85d3f7700] ERROR - Failed to begin transaction (../Library/MetadataCollection.cpp:169) (tries=4): Cannot begin transaction. database is locked

The server console shows:

Plex is the process that is blocked.

Media Server - How to backup Photo Tags and Album Data?

$

I have recently began using Plex Media Server for some of my photo organizing... However, I feel if I needed to move to another installation of PMS, or this one failed, that the tagging and albums I'm creating would be lost. I am aware that the folder to backup the PMS "database" is, on Ubuntu, here: /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/

... My concern is by backing up this directory, recursively, will it restore my photo albums and individual photo tags if I have to restore/provision a new installation of PMS? Any help provided would be greatly appreciated!

Endless Looking for servers....

So, due to a problem with my server I had to purge plex data completely(all settings directories and everything). After this I installed the newest version of plex(checking that Preferences.xml was previously deleted) and removed the old plex server from plex.tv account. After trying to connect to the server usin server_ip:32400/web I get redirected to app.plex.tv to login, after which I am sent to a screen where plex infinitely keeps searching for a server.

Enabled the repo in /etc/yum.repos.d/plex.repo

Ran yum update with the server stopped.

I have no clue how to proceed... :(

Upgraded Plex and it just stopped working.

I do not know what version I upgraded from or to. but it probably does not matter.
Hopefully this question will help someone else.
Running Plex Media Server on Ubuntu
I selected the Upgrade Server link in the Web app while on localhost, rather than upgrading via the CLI, as the CLI was not upgrading.
However immediately following the install of the download, Plex just stopped, with no logs or errors that I could find.
Eventually I guessed what the issue could be:
Because I had previously renamed Plex's running user and group, when I upgraded it reset them back to the default "plex".
Swapping it back to the new user name and a couple of restarts, it started working as per normal.

I hope someone finds this useful.

Maybe someone knows a better way to upgrade? should I have used the CLI to upgrade?
I tried the CLI but it did nothing, which is weird because normally the CLI upgrade method works fine.

PMS not opening 32400 port

Been trying to find a solution for days now.

Latest update installed caused this issue (1.11.3.4803-c40bba82e)
I installed using the GUI in the Plex Web App on Chrome (Probably my first mistake)

This is not a port forwarding issue, I.E. I am not trying to connect remotely, I am connecting locally (localhost).

PMS is running and active and seems to have no errors:

Added the override.conf file and lost my libraries etc, Where do I find my old DB?

$

I followed these instructions:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/286395/customizing-your-plex-configuration

plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf
was not in
/etc/systemd/system/
cat /proc/1/comm
does return
systemd
so I:
shutdown the service
created the folder and file and set up the file like this:
then:
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl start plexmediaserver

Problem I have now is it is asking me to add my libraries again.
This suggests I have lost all of my metadata

Where do I find my previous database???
Or should I repoint my override file back to the old location????

This has happened on 1.10.1.4602 and 1.11.3.4803. It may be show specific, but I don't add that many new shows.

I moved a folder of "The Pink Panther" into my tv shows directory. It found it and tried to download the metadata, but failed. I'm left with no show descriptions, just titles from the filename.

I see lots of errors in the log, mostly like this:

2018-02-23 22:28:20,869 (7fa7fffff700) : ERROR (networking:219) - Error opening URL 'https://meta.plex.tv/tv_e/100741/pink+panther/1993'

2018-02-23 22:28:21,655 (7fa7fffff700) : INFO (init:930) - No media for season 3 episode 30 - skipping population of episode data

Then later:

2018-02-23 22:28:22,020 (7fa7feffd700) : INFO (init:1025) - Season Extra XML is empty - therefore, no episode XML
2018-02-23 22:28:22,020 (7fa7feffd700) : DEBUG (networking:166) - Requesting 'https://tvdb2.plex.tv/episodes/1589021?lang=en'

I see the data on thetvdb.org web site just fine, maybe there's an API issue? It's been doing this for several days now. I did clear thetvdb cache. I moved the directory out then back in, no change.

Upgrade from v1.10x to v1.11.3.4803-c40bba82e makes PMS inaccessible. Running but unreachable.

On ubunutu 16.04, I upgraded from v10.x of PlexPass to v1.11.3.4803-c40bba82e. dpkg went fine, systemctl shows plexmediaserver is running and active without errors. But I can't access the server locally or through plex.tv.

systemd has the default user=plex and group=plex, I've tried restarting the service, and rebooting the entire machine. Without any errors to go on, I'm not even sure where to start.

Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install (PMS 1.11.3.4803)

Been having this issue since upgrading to the latest Plex Media Server. There was also an issue of not having enough disk space but I fixed that. Still, no show or movie can load because the required codecs couldn't be found or failed to install. I have reinstalled MS in the meantime and used the solutions that helped others with this problem, but to no avail. Can't really make something from the logs either, so I'm asking here. Anyone who can offer some help? Thanks in advance!

Playback error at video end

I am getting playback errors at the web client when playing certain tv shows at maximum quality. The video itself plays normally till the last 30 seconds. Then the error message occurs, but the video continues to the end in the background. The error message is just an overlay.

The error does only occur at certain episodes and only if quality is set to Convert(Maximum). It doesn't occur on android or the Windows App (propably because the don't have the convert(Maximum) option).

The problem occurs as shown on the picture:

It says: "An error occured trying to play ..." shaka1001 (Network)

The Transcoder default throttle buffer is 120 seconds.

The log file of the server is attached. It's generated directyl after plexmediaserver service restart.
As seen in the logs I updated plex to 1.11.3 this morning. Error persists.

I'M FIXED--changes in Version 1.11.3.4803 affecting Linux/Ubuntu?

$
0
0

So what changed in version 1.11.3.4803 that FIXED my ongoing problem???

I have been running fine for a couple years.

Specs:
Ubuntu 14.4 LTS (waiting for Beavery 18.04 LTS), 12 GB RAM, Plex version 1.11.3.4803. Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.2 x 4, Ivybridge, 64-bit. My server is only used for Plex, Plexpy, and file serving on a local network.

Issue:
Somewhere after 1.90, probably after 1.97, Plex became--difficult. It 'hung up(???)' more and more until I had to reboot daily. A hard drive that hadn't been rebooted more than a dozen times in sevvvveral years now had 49 reboots. Stopping/Starting(ir even Restarting) the service did not help.

Description of Issue:
Plex would not connect locally (on the server using the localhost:32400 connection) but would connect via other handheld devices (all other devices are iOS devices) and I believe on my Macs (Plex Web Client) would connect, too. The issue was that (and here I am talking iOS--I hate using my laptops to cast) I could click on a file (TV show, Movie, Music, Photo--and I tried a variety within each category as well) and it would pop up a 'PLAYING' badge but there would never be a 'LOADING' badge which would have been followed by actually playing the file. I tried casting and playing it local and both would show 'PLAYING' but never show 'LOADING' and then, of course, it would not play. If I had synced content on my iOS device it would play on the device or I could cast it. Huh. That sort of got me, but it certainly pointed to the server just not 'being there'. I tried stopping/starting(& restarting) the service but no dice. I had to REBOOT the server to get it to "work" again. Eventually that was DAILY. And awful. Auto-rebooting a server is just not my thing so this really causes an issue.

SOOOOO:
Then I installed version 1.11.3.4803 and, after slightly more than 24 hours, and with trepidation in my fingertips, I type that it seems OK. At least it has lasted LONGER that since the last reboot and it has been running consistently, for MONTHS in the other direction.

WHAT CHANGED in VERSION 1.11.3.4803 from the PREVIOUS VERSION POST 1.94 ???

I say this in all caps to draw attention as opposed to being pissed. ;) But seriously, it has been a HUGE pain my my holy ass and now--it seems MAYBE--it might be fixed. I just want to know where to post the Gray Goose ;) and why.
