Not Updating Movie Data Base

Ok. So I've been running plex for a while now and its been great. Up until now i'm having alittle bit of trouble that I just can't figure out.

Before, my setup was just a older computer that ran ubuntu 16.04 with all my files on a external hard drive. Everything worked fine.

Now, I've upgraded to a much bigger server with all internal hard drives and only use the external drive for my TV Shows. The following is now my issue.
When I first setup the new server everything worked and was found. No permission issues except for FTP access which I fixed.
Now any new movies uploaded since the new server going live doesn't get found. When I upload the plex server detects changes but doesn't add the new movies. When I upload new TV shows to the external drive it detects the changes and adds them to my list. This is really starting to get on my nerves.
Now if I completely delete the movies folder from plex and re-add it guess what it works and finds all the movies including the new ones. But this option isn't something I want to keep doing because of how long it takes to add my data base.

Can someone please help with some advice.

TVDB agent not working following library move

Hi,
my TV library used to live on a Windows machine using TVDB as the agent. Over the weekend I moved my media on to a new server running Ubuntu. When I create the TV shows library if I set the agent to TVDB it says your changes could not be saved. However if I pick the local media server agent the library creates successfully. The problem with this is it doesn't download the cover art for each show, can anybody tell me what I might be doing wrong when trying to use TVDB?

Thanks

Plex Server re-adding hundreds of movies that have been untouched in my library for months

When I brought up Plex today, I noticed 283 out of my 1413 movies show as added today.

Frustratingly, it's replaced much of the poster art with hideous selections cluttered with tiny print or foreign titles or both.

The files haven't been moved or renamed. The server hasn't been restarted for days. The watched statuses are fine.

How do I go about figuring out what caused this?

Is there a way to revert these to the previous metadata? I have a backup of the "Application Support/Plex Media Server" directory - it's several months old but most of these movies were added long before that.

How to get remote access with a reverse proxy on port 80

I can access Plex via my domain at plex.example.com. It's a nice friendly domain for my users to connect to. I have other web servers, not just Plex.

I have a reverse proxy using ngnix which changes plex.example.com on port 80 into localhost:32400.

I've changed the Custom server access URL to plex.example.com.

But I'm not sure how to get remote access.

What do I put for "Manually specify public port ". I've put 80, that doesn't work. It seems to be trying to connect to my Plex server via my external IP address?

I plan to use ssl and forward port 80 to 443 in the future, just not now.

Thanks.

Update Plex on Ubuntu Server

Greetings!

I'm wondering how I can update my version of Plex on a headless Ubuntu Server?

Having issues with it not running automatically when the server is rebooted, have to manually invoke the service.  Hoping the update will fix the problem.

Thanks all.

Plex not recognizing an external HDD?

I'm currently running plex on Ubuntu Gnome 17.04 and trying to use an external HDD as media storage. However, plex can not see any of the folders in the actual drive when creating a library, only the drive. When I specify manually which directory to point to the library scans come up empty. I've already tried the top solutions in the following threads:

https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/72541/plex-media-server-not-seeing-external-hard-drive
https://askubuntu.com/questions/395291/plex-media-server-wont-find-media-external-hard-drive

The hard drive I'm using is NTFS and produced by Seagate.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Convert from Apt-Get installed Plex Server to Snap

I'd like to simplify the install and have it also do automatic updates using snap. But I don't want to lose anything.

Is there any tricks or can I just apt remove and then install with the snap and get everything back?

Thanks!

This server is unclaimed and not secure

Once a day when I try to access plex I get "The server "Plex-v2" is unreachable. Make sure it's running, double check your network, and try again." When I log on the server directly I see "This server is unclaimed and not secure" I then claim the server and it starts working again. Why does this keep happening?

Why does PMS v1.12.0.4829 redirect me to login when trying to go to my server's Settings page?

I'm currently running PMS v1.11.3.4803 on Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS and I can navigate without issue to the server settings in Plex Web without any problem. I never sign-in to the server to connect to the Plex cloud, etc. and like to keep it that way. However, after I tried upgrading to v1.12.0.4829 it consistently redirected me to sign-in with my Plex account and there didn't appear to be any way around it which led me to rolling back to the previous release. Guess I have a few questions here....is anyone else being redirected when trying to access their server setting while not signed in? Now a question for any devs that may see this, was this intentional to quietly push users to always sign in to their server?

Plex 1.12.0.4829 does not record

Hi,

I upgraded my Plex instance from 1.10.1.4602 to 1.12.0.4829 a day or two ago, and since then Plex DVR does not record any shows.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

I'm running on Ubuntu 14.04 and recording from a HDHomerun (HDHR3-DT).

Thanks!

Please Help, Losing My Mind! LG OLED65B6P 4K HDR Content Viewing Issue!

Hello,

I have been troubleshooting an issue for the past couple days, and I can't figure it out. I think I've tried everything, but nothing seems to have fixed it. I'm hoping someone else knows something to help fix this issue.

I have an LG OLED65B6P and was using a Roku Premium+ device directly wired to ethernet to connect to my local Plex server. I've been checking out some 4k UHD content and noticed a couple of problems. It starts off fine, and I see the "HDR" in the top right of the screen. I've attached some pictures and videos, see for yourself! There's some weird artifacting going on in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I also have a weird issue with Interstellar (if I fast forward) where it becomes a completely jumbled green blob (another picture).

Now, I've tried switching HDMI cords, ethernet cables, different ports in the TV. Nothing seemed to change the problem when running on the Roku. But, if I used the LG Plex app right from the TV, it works fine... (see video clip). The "HDR" is displayed on the screen just like when on the Roku, but there are no problems. Of course, I check out Interstellar... and it's fine too! Weird... ok must be the Roku somehow? I then order a Nvidia Shield as my friend recommended it's the most powerful thing to stream 4k content right now.

I set everything up, get updates, and... WHAT?!?! It's having the same issue the Roku was? This is baffling... I can't understand how it's possible... or what else I can do to fix it. I tried different HDMI cords, ethernet, different TV ports, different picture modes... same result. I'm also using cords I know work fine hooked up to the Xbox One X which displays HDR content with no issues.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on a reason this is happening, or other steps to try?

Plex Version 1.12.0.4829 is running on Ubuntu 16.04 server. I've already had at least one plex app update since this issue started a couple weeks ago. I know it's not the file either, a friend can remotely stream this same movie on their 4k TV on a Shield with no issues, all the way through.

Thanks for any information!

Edit: Ended up being audio transcoding issue. Got a new receiver and it all works great again!

Plex Media Server Repo for Debian

Hi.
We have decided to lock the other Debian thread and start a new one so I can edit the first post since Origin is no longer and has not been maintaing this package for a while.

All credits goes to Tobias and the other at Plex for PMS and the init script for Debian were made by Origin. I have just taken all there work and efforts and repacked it for Debian since the ubuntu package is not compatible since the change to upstart.

Down here is the instructions for installing PMS from my repo. This packages is for now compatible with Debian Squeeze , Wheezy and OpenMediaVault 0.3 , 0.4

First Time install

sudo apt-get install curl

If you are running Squeeze,Wheezy or Jessie with SYSVINIT
echo "deb http://shell.ninthgate.se/packages/debian wheezy main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list

If you are using Jessie with systemd then use the Ubuntu package from plex and you will get their repo.

sudo curl http://shell.ninthgate.se/packages/shell.ninthgate.se.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plexmediaserver

Upgrading

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

The init script Original by Origin with a minor modification by me

new to Linux... best way to update PMS to latest version

$

I'm currently running PMS v1.11.3.4803 on a Linux Mint machine. Update Manger is prompting me to upgrade to v1.12.0.4829-6de959918, and will do the install automatically at the click of a button. However, the Plex Server / Settings / General tab warns to "Please install (the update) manually", which downloads a .deb file with identical version.

This is my first PMS update since building my Linux machine, and being new to Linux, I have no clue what to do with a .deb file.

Can someone explain why I shouldn't just let Update Manager do the install? And if that's not a good idea, details on how to do a manual install would be appreciated.

Is it possible to use VU+ Solo enigma2 as Plex Server?

Im using a VU+ Solo enigma2 box with a HDD that has all our movies saved.

I would like to use the Vu+ as a Plex 'Server' so I can stream to other Plex Clients in the household (firestick extc..).

The Vu+ is dual core and nippy, runs KODI without issue. Is this possible?

Streaming through LAN in a 3 routers network

Hello,

Does anyone solved the LAN streaming for a 3 router network ?

My setup schema would be:

    Internet Router
     / \

Router 2 Router 3
/ \
PMS Smart tv

I have solved the problem for every direct connection (cable/wifi) from Router 2 and the Internet Router to the PMS. But for the Router 3 it is handled using the external networ/Internet not the internal network LAN.

To make the 2 routers LAN work for the internal and external network I did:

  • Setup static IP for the Router 2 based on MAC
  • Add DMZ exception in the "Internet Router" pointing the IP of the PMS
  • Open ports in Router 2 for the PMS IP local address.

I can imagine how to solve the matter for a 2-way NAT, but in a 3-way with the network schema above, I'm completely lost. I don't know what I should try to do.

Thanks in advance

Plex won't read my hard drive

I'm having issues trying to set up a server on a pi. I realize this is a common question throughout the forums but for some reason can't find what I'm looking for. I am very new to this but have been following along with most of it. I found the drive name and UUID but for some reason can't change anything as root. I come up with an error at the bottom of any root programs. It is:

a swapfile is not a swap partititon, no line here

use dphys-swapfile swap[on|off] for that

Any guesses on a fix would help so much.
