Continuous buffering no matter what client system I use

Running Server on seedbox version 1.12.0.4829.
Running latest app on multiple clients with nuc, roku, and PC's.
All with similar results.

A lot of buffering. Sometimes i can wait for a few minutes and the show or movie will start playing again. Other times i wait forever and nothing happens so i back out and play again. Some time it also just backs out of the movie i will be playing, not even show buffering it just kicks me out of the movie playing and have to play the movie again. Luckily most of the time the movie or show will start back up where it froze but other times if it is close to the end I will have to restart the movie or show from the beginning and fast forward to get the last few minutes of the show or movie.

My home download speeds are 180Mbps so i don't think that is the problem

I attached the server logs and would appreciate if somebody can potentially find the cause of the issue.

Linux Mint Plex Mediaserver - Large library

I am running plexmediaserver on a linux mint 17.03 machine, in the /var/lib/plexmediaserver there are two library directories one Library and Library.orig, in total these are 49gb in size so im hoping i can get rid of the orig one. Is this allowed and if so how, they seem to be protected from such an action so im guessing needed, just need to make them smaller.

HP Microserver Gen10 for PMS

HI all,

I'm currently using an old QNAP for PMS but looking to upgrade to something that can handle h265 audio transcodes (from DTS to AC3) - Alot of people are suggesting Gen8's but they seem to be rocking horse poo these days.

I've been looking at the Gen10's and wondered if anyone had successfully used them? Are they worth it? Most of the content i have mainly will just need the audio transcoding.

Any help would be appreciated.

Connect Server with only CLI

Hello!

Since I only have the Linux CLI on my Server I am not able to "connect" my media server with the Plex database, because I do not have any graphical interface. How can I connect both services together? I have really no clue and it is always saying "Searching for Servers". The Server is not running locally in my network.

[Ubuntu 16.04]: Issue with server disappearing from plex.tv (several times)

Plex Version: Plex Media Server v1.11.3.4803-c40bba82e

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue.... My plex server keeps becoming unreachable from plex.tv, even when I restart the server it will not show as available in plex.tv. It randomly drops and disconnects, I'm not sure what causing it. Any ideas or know where I should look further? To fix it, normally I just have to follow these steps to reconnect the server again:

  • Open a Terminal window or your command prompt
  • Enter the following command (substituting the IP address of your server as appropriate):
  • ssh ip.address.of.server -L 8888:localhost:32400
  • Open a browser window
  • Type http://localhost:8888/web into the address bar

====

Specific Library won't scan

I have a bit of a strange problem. I have one specific library that I update on a daily basis and today it stopped scanning files. The files are webminars that are downloaded and arranged in a TV Show library.

The errors in the plex log indicate that Plex marked the media as unavailable.

Since discovering this issue I have tried the following
1. Changing permissions so it would be owned by the plex user
2. repairing the database (had issues with this where it complained about needed a unique key so I restored the old database)
3. Playing the file to see what issues plex had. It wouldn't play.

Finally I created a new library referencing the same media directories
This library has no issue scanning the directories or playing back the files. However, as these are all downloaded files where I updated the meta data manually the meta data is missing.

Is there a way to either
1. get the original library to scan again or
2. transfer the meta data from the broken library to the one that is scanning?

Partial write issues for meta data

I recently switched my Plex Media Server from running on Mac OSX which ran great to my new NetGear Night Hawk AC 7200 wires router. Install and everything went great but now I'm having issues downloading meta data for posters. Weird. I run several times and some movies load the meta data, when I re-run the meta data scan some of the movies that had posters lose them and others that didn't have them. If I try to upload a pic file like a jpg it says it has a write issue. The USB drive I have connected has open all write permissions to I'm at a loss. Has anyone run into this and found a fix?

Plex Media Scanner returning nothing on "--list"

My plex is working normally with a tv section, and a movies section etc.

However, on running "/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Scanner --list" - it returns nothing, and doesn't show my various sections; however the plex server proper still sees / serves content properly.

I've recently changed the 'PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_USER' account that the plex server runs under in /etc/default/plexmediaserver - would that be related?

How can i fix this (or debug it), so that i can manually update libraries when required? The log (cat '/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs/Plex\ Media\ Scanner.log') does not show any errors that i can see, relating to having zero sections?

Duplicate entry in movies by title with metadata_type 18

I have some duplicates in the library that are only visible when ordering by title.

I can see the duplicates with the following sql:
select * from metadata_items where metadata_type = 18;

If I delete these rows the dupes disappear but if the original file still exists in the library the dupe reappears if Plex is restarted so there is another record somewhere causing a problem.

The duplicate has a thumbnail and will play the content but has no other metadata when selected.

Normal entries have thumbnail, title, year. The dupes have thumbnail, title, number of movies (see screenshot below).

When the file is deleted the normal entry is correctly removed via trash but the dupe stays forever even after emptying trash. The rogue entry now lists as thumbnail, title, "0 Movies".

The two files that have caused this were from BBC iPLayer so originally have the filename format ..mp4 e.g. Calvary.b05rgxtt.mp4. THey were put into the library folder in this format but later corrected to the normal format with the year in brackets but the duplicate entry was already created and does not go when the filename format is fixed.

I am running 1.12.0.4829 on Linux.

Hello, I just setup a new shiny spacewalk server to manage my servers and I need the repo for plex. I know that you just change the "0" to a "1" in the .conf file but the repo there ends with "$" witch does not work. I need something more like:
http://xxxx/xxx/centos/7/x86_64

VPN split tunneling with PIA and Plex

I have found a few threads on this, mostly in the Windows section, but I haven't found any concrete answers. I am currently running my Plex server on a Fedora 24 workstation, connected to my home router. I am able to access Plex from outside of the network, as long as my PIA VPN is turned off. I would like to be able to keep it on throughout the day, but have Plex available at the same time. I am not a wizard when it comes to networking, but Im also not afraid to get my hands dirty. I just really need someone to help point me in the right direction.

Plex Media Server - Trying to remove old unclaimed media server

I am trying to completely remove and reinstall plex. After I remove everything and reinstall, every time I start the media server it keeps asking to claim an unclaimed media server. I would like to completely remove it. Can anybody tell me how to do this?

Plex keeps dropping outside availability (just started)

Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
Plex 1.12.0.4829

All the network forwarding has been ok "forever" then this started. Seems to have started after about 1:00am this morning. I restarted Plex several times and after a few minutes it becomes unavailable outside my network. I haven't updated Plex in more than a week.

I will gladly supply logs if requested.

[Openmediavault 2.1] : I can't mark anything as watched from app.plex.tv

Hello.

I am having an issue with Plex Media Server 1.8.0.4109 on Openmediavault version 2.1.

Recently, I was not able anymore to mark anything as watched when I use Plex from the official page: https://app.plex.tv/desktop

The episod is not automatically marked as watched either and the only solution I have is to do it through... the Android app.

However, when I access from the webpage but through the locale address (my_server_ip:32400), this works perfectly.

Is there something wrong?

PS: I could update the PMS to the latest version but the last time I tried that, I have to back up to this version because of Openmediavault version.

Update Plex on Ubuntu Server

Greetings!

 

I'm wondering how I can update my version of Plex on a headless Ubuntu Server?

 

Having issues with it not running automatically when the server is rebooted, have to manually invoke the service.  Hoping the update will fix the problem.

Plex runs as user plex, not as user pi on the raspberry pi

I installed the plex media server according to

Problem: the external disk is not accessible for plex.

ps -aux
tells me, that the Plex Media Server runs as user "plex", not as user "pi". In the file /etc/default/plexmediaserver.prev,
there is the line
PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_USER=pi

This seems to be ignored. Why?

A look into /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver tells me, that here a file /etc/default/plexmediaserver is processed.
So I copied plexmediaserver.prev to prlexmediaserver. No effect. I even edited the /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver file and hard coded
su -l pi -c "/usr/sbin/start_pms
No effect. When I started it from command line via
su -l pi /usr/sbin/start_pms
then the Plex Media Server runs as user "pi" and the external disk is visible.

But that's no proper solution. So my question: what has to be done, such that plex runs properly as user "pi"?

Plex not matchin title by IMDb link; Due to no entry in The Movie Database?

I have a "movie", which is more like a collection of music videos, that was released in a collection called "'Weird Al' Yankovic: The Videos" released in 1996. It doesn't seem to be matching up, despite having an honest-to-goodness page in imdb.

However, there is no entry for it in The Movie Database. Is there any way I can force this match? Entering the IMDb title link seems to do nothing.

HW Transcoding Not Working - OMV

So I have a Proliant Ml350 with 1 Xenon E5230 CPU running OpenMediaVault 3 which is basically Debian Jessie. I was hoping to offload the transcodes to the GPU so that my VMs were not bottle necked as bad by high CPU usage. No, I dont have Intel Quick Sync which I understand is the best option. What I do have is 1 Nvidia Geforce 430 GT and a another Geforce 210 laying around that I could use. I would rather an AMD card but if I can get the Nvidia cards to work I would be cool with that also.

Now, I did try the geforce 430 install the nvidia drivers for jessie but gave up because plex did nothing with it. I am hoping someone could help. I would really like to get this working somehow. Also does anyone know if AMD GPUs work out of the box? there is no documentation anywhere but it seems as if ffmpeg is a go for amd cards using VAAPI.

Clients can't find server anymore

I'm running v1.12.0.4829-6de959918 on a Ubuntu 16.04 box. Everything worked and suddenly all client's can't connect to the server anymore. Even the web client on the server itself. The settings menu doesn't contain the "Server" tab anymore.

I can't find any errors in the logs.

Is this something common? I reinstalled the deb but am afraid of purging the package because I don't want to lose my library.
