Plex problems after upgrade

Hi all,

I have a big problem after upgradiung to the newest version (1.2.7.2987). After the upgrade all of my users watching my plex contents through Smart TV, laptop, mobile, etc, tells that the movie randomly stopping, and the content folder is showing up. It's like the stop button was pressed. I also saw this several times. Before the upgrade i never get this problem. Nothing was changed on the server, and the load of the server is also fine.
What could be the problem?

roku can not find server

Restarted, rebooted, signed out, signed in ... nothing seems to work. Not using Linux (don't know how I got that associated with my question)
I've also updated everybody. Seems almost getting worse. No visible changes to my router. I am not a computer savant but not completely ignorant. Frustrated. About to dump this **** that has worked for the past 3 years.

Why are videos only playing when optimized?

Hi, I just rebuilt my plex server after a very LONG time of it being dead (1.5 years). I'm using the exact same data drives as my last server, configured it the exact same way on the same OS (Ubuntu), etc. The only thing that is different is the hardware, and the plex version. My previous server was able to play ALL videos without any issues.

I've been running into issues with approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of my videos where they won't play. The buffer wheel spins indefinitely. However, when I optimize a video, it plays no problem. The videos work fine outside of plex. I've triple checked permissions in my fstab. This issue persists on any of my devices connected to my server.

Any ideas of what I can do?

Roku not able to stream MKV files from Plex Server after switching from Windows 10 to Ubuntu

I recently switched from Windows 10 to Ubuntu on my main workstation (which also runs plex server). Prior to the upgrade I was able to play MKV files from my roku streaming stick just fine. Post upgrade I no longer can. Attached are my plex server logs. Any ideas why?

Plex on VPS

Hi,
I'm trying to run plex on a ubuntu VPS, but it cannot detect the private IP, or enable remote access.
I think it is something to do with the network not having a NAT.
How do I fix this?

Plex has to reload buffer when pausing and changing tabs

Over the past few days I have noticed that if I pause a plex stream and switch to another tab within that same window then come back to plex it has top reload out the buffer. The screen flashes black back then back to the paused screen then starts to reload the buffer. My PMS is being hosted in the "cloud" and is running Ubuntu 16.10. It seems to me the server is not keeping the connection alive when a user switches away from the paused tab. I will note as well that plex is behind an NGINX and Apache server config. I am thinking there may be something in my iptables rules that is causing this but I cannot determine what it might be. Any help would be much appreciated.

Plex not synching all of my music

When I add my media folder for music only four albums show up in player? Any suggestions? Thanks. I do have plex pass.

Notify Plex of downloads via Couchpotato

I had been struggling getting couchpotato to notify PMS correctly. Here's what I did to fix it.

 

Filled out Couchpotato > Settings > Notifications

 

Media server: 192.168.11.52:32400

User name: my plex username

password: my plex password

Auth Token - the tricky part.

 

from these directions:

under linux I did

locate Preferences.xml

which came up with this:

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml

 

then

sudo less /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml

and found the "PlexOnlineToken="xxxx" in there.

 

copy/paste that into 

Couchpotato Auth Token

I also put a user name in there. Hit Test, sure enough, Plex movies refreshes.

transcoder and PGS subtitles issue

Hi,

I have a dedicated Plex machine which is having trouble transcoding files which have PGS subtitles. The machine has 2 6 core xeon processors and more than enough ram, it has no problem transcoding 8 or more full HD streams.

This issue is this: When i play a video file which has PGS subtitles, the transcoder never goes above 100% cpu usage (The machine has 24 cores, 12 physical and 12 hyperthreaded, so it should in theory be able to reach 2400%). On the client side this results in choppy playback and buffering. All the files i've tested in combination with PGS were x265 files. Playing the very same file without subtitles or with .srt subtitles enabled results in a full blown transcode utilising all the CPU cores, and smooth playback.

I'm running server version 1.2.7.2987, and tested this issue on the webplayer (plex.tv) and on the samsung smart tv app
The server is running on an up to date Centos 7

Plex shows duplicates with identical paths and filenames

I'm running Plex server 1.2.2.2857 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

In my TV library, Plex has started showing the duplicate files icon for a bunch of new episodes. When I check the info page for the episode, it shows two file entries, but the path and file are identical. When I look in the folder on my file system, the file is of course only there once. In other words, there is only one file but Plex shows it twice and reports it as a duplicate. This is happening for most of the episodes that have been added in the last couple of weeks. I've tried re-scanning the library and emptying the trash, but the duplicates remain. Does anyone know what would cause this and how to correct and prevent it?

Good hardware for a headless Plex Media Server based on Ubuntu

I have at home a Plex architecture consisting of:

  • a NAS storing all my videos
  • a mini-computer used as Plex Media Server based on Ubuntu
  • a PS4 to play the videos
    I am regretfully encountering some lags with the most detailed videos (1080p) and always need to convert them to 720p to play them. I am therefore considering the purchase of a new hardware to install my Plex Media Server (with Ubuntu)

Would any of you have recommandations

  • in terms of CPU, RAM
  • or predefined configurations like Intel NCU?

Scanning my photo library (premium library) crashes my PLEX media server since database is locked

I have a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra running PLEX Version 1.3.0.3059-6277334 (but I cannot choose Western Digital as a category as it is greyed out) and have an issue scanning my Photo-Library. I get (on the console, when stoping and starting Plex via the corresponding start.sh and stop.sh):

  what():  Cannot begin transaction. database is locked

But there is no file in the corresponding folder. In "Plex Media Server.log" (when downloading the logs) I found this entry:

Plex Media Sever loses all media posters

Hello,
I am running Plex Media Server on unRaid 6 through the docker engine. (container created by needo running the latest version of plex)

I have recently came across an issue where ALL my media loses its posters (but keeps metadata)

EDIT: But the strange thing is, it remembers the poster I had select if not the default.

When ever I do a full library "refresh all" the posters start populating again, but after less than 24hrs they are once again gone.

I am not sure how much more information I need to give you guys, but please do ask.

Able to Transcode Public vs Private IP's

I have recently installed and started to use the PLEX software. Is it possible to have Plex do different encoding based on the IP address of the device streaming.

If someone is streaming a movie using our cellular connection, I would like the server to see the public IP address and send it transcode, maybe preset or maybe set not to exceed a certain amount.

If someone is streaming a movie using a wireless connection, either our house or some other location, then the server is may not transcode the movie due to the fact that my cellular data isn't being used.

I have PlexTY installed and i can see the external IP addresses that have access Plex, but if there is an Internal IP address on the device it does not capture.

I hope this makes sense of what I am asking.

Not enough disk space to convert item

hello, i'm trying to play a movie that's about 20 gigs and disk and i'm getting the error "Not enough disk space to convert item"

I'm using Arch linux if that is helpful!

I just switched from Windows again to Ubuntu 15.04 installed on my Samsung 250GB Evo SSD and had all my movies and television on my 2TB WD mechanical drive formatted as FAT32. Installed Plex Media Server, it sees the 2TB drive but no folders or content. Thinking it was because of the FAT32 I backed everything up and reformatted as Linux Journal, copied everything back but Plex still doesn't see anything on it. What do I have to do to get Plex to see my media's on this drive?

[Ubuntu 16.04]: Remote capabilities staying alive

I've had this issue for quite a long time now. My Plex server will naturally lose its remote access capabilities and they won't return until I visit the settings menu of Plex. I don't do anything to re-establish the remote access, I just click on the settings button, I see the red indicator that the server is not accessible outside of my LAN, and within a second or two it flips to green. I don't even need to visit the remote tab or click its retry button. Originally I had it self-assigning itself a port and using UPnP and this was happening. I've since switched to static IP and a fixed port, which is configured properly in my router, but the issue persists.

I'm not sure how long the remote capabilities remain alive after I visit the settings menu, but I know that it's only a handful of minutes. Naturally I never use my server remotely because I would need to be on my server to get that refresh of the service going after which it would soon timeout regardless.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 (under Mint 18) and the newest version of Plex for pass holders.

[BUG] ape/wav embedded tags are useless

Plex can't use embedded tags of APE lossless music files (Monkey's Audio), but plays correctly. And local players shows tags correctly.

Plex media server and free disk space under linux

This question is oriented to the devs since i would like to alterate the standard functionality of the PMS. I would like to know using which command plex determine the actual free disk space on the partition where streams are encoded.
